BP,

I just picked up The Best of Albert Lee songbook and in the introduction the author briefly mentions that Fun Ranch Boogie was based on idea [Fun Ranch Frolics]of yours that originally became a sound-page for Guitar Player magazine. Any chance that you could enlighten the rest of us about how this song came about ?

The book was done by Hemme B. Luttjeboer, if that helps :)

I also have the Albert Lee Highlights video and the bass you are playing is incredible, especially the fretboard inlay!

Thanks,

actually here is the story

Our house in slo is called the fun ranch....whenever any one comes over there is a great meal and obligtory jamming.....one of the off the cuff ones is the fun ranch boogie.

Albert only writes with solar eclipses and Guitar Player asked Albert to do a sound page...
I was asked to play but was busy so Albert called my old friend Freebo and John ferraro....they said what are we going to do and Al says lets just do this little fast two beat. They played it and both John and Freebo werre laughing at Albert. He asked why and they said you just nicked fun ranch boogie! Al said oh dear! Albert had aded a new bridge so I got "posthumous writing credit"!

BP,

Thanks for the story. I would imagine there have been many memorable gatherings at your house that have inspired many cool tunes. I'm actually pretty excited to be working on that tune now, I think I will use that as the first thing I play (or try to play) on my new Albert Lee when it arrives, hopefully it can give it some good 'mojo' :D Either that or you could always play some licks on it for me before it is shipped out.

Thanks again,

Rich
