.....of Mark Bass amps????

Your input has created what seems like Mark Bass mania in the chubby string forum. I bet it's a great amp.
So any strong opinions on guitar amps/manufacturers aside from "friends don't let friends buy Peavey?"

Uh oh Foggy, Hartley ain't gonna like that!!! And, really, he seems to be a man a nice man tryin' to do good . Lots of "nice" similarities between Peavey and MM in the customer service dept, both very polite and efficient.

However, no reasonable person would ever venture to compare a Peavey guitar to a MM, (except for maybe the old Wolfgang or his new HP), but the MM still wins out against both!!

Amps, as you mentioned, well that's a "whole" different story!!:)

Do I have to personally come to your house, take you out, and force you to finally buy an amp? Stop wasting precious ball playing time and buy a damn amp. You have enough info already!!!!!:D;)

Well, to tide you over until BP chimes in...

There are a lot of great companies out there to choose from, and it narrows down slightly once you decide what sound you're looking for. I'm a Mesa guy myself and I've never felt lacking. I play pretty much everything from Chet, to Paisley, to Govan, to Johnson, to Petrucci, to Morse, to Metheny and my F30 (which is probably the most bare-bones amp Mesa has put out in the last decade or two) has never left me high and dry. I'm planning to get a lone star soon though...the lead tone that Timmons gets out of his has set the gears in motion for what will likely be a very long tone quest.

As for some not-so-mainstream options....Bogner has me really impressed. I don't see it happening soon, but I'd LOVE to own a Shiva combo one day. One of my teachers turned me on to them....INCREDIBLE tone. Probably not as versatile as the Mesas I like, but the tones it DOES cover are well worth the price tag.

Cornford also has me very impressed. Youtube some videos of Guthrie Govan or (better yet) buy his album "erotic cakes". Definitely some of the best tone I've ever heard....but the guy playing them has a big part to do with that. I've never heard them in a heavy, uber high gain setting, but everything I have heard has me totally convinced as to their quality.

The ENGL's are nice....but I've never been able to get a smooth/warm enough tone out them. They're a little too "british" for me. They seem to be well-liked by others though, so you might want to disregard my thoughts on them.

LOL!!!! I seem to have that narrowed down to 3.
This thread has nothing to do with my purchases. I'm just curious is all.
I believe Sterling had alot to do with Mark Bass' curent success. I just want to know his opinion on a guitar equivalent.

As far as amps go, I am still partial to Fender. Twin Reverbs are simple but yet pretty much everything you should need.

Yeah right!!! You're just waiting for Poppa's opinion on what the 6 string equivelant of a markbass is, then you're going to buy that. Admit it............ADMIT IT!!!!;):D

P.S. You've had it narrowed down to 3 choices for some time, now. Lets get it down to 1. I think we're going to have to get another forum get together to see you purchase your amp.:p

Alright Scott!

Here's what I'm looking at. I'll give out the list before BP chimes in.
It's not to say I won't look into what he might have to say.

I was all gun ho on the H&K Switchblade. But read mixed reviews on it. I still want to try one out though. Was also looking into Dr.Z, but it won't do some of the music I wish to play.

What I'm currently looking at is:

Budda II SD 18 or 30
Mesa Lonestar Special
Traynor Custom Special 50

Now back to my original thread! ;)

Yeah, that's "the pot calling the kettle black", you hijacker!!!:p;)

I admit, I think I'd have a hard time choosing between the 3. I think I'd lean toward the LONESTAR.

Now back to the regularly sceduled thread.:D

okay fogman, minor thread-jacking here .... go with the Lonestar (even though I think a Z and some pedals would more than do the trick, eh) :)

now go shopping, eh

Buy a Z! I have a Prescription ES Combo, and it does everything I need it to, with the exception of maybe... heavy metal. In that instance, I just throw in a distortion pedal and go to town, or revert to my old Laney amp.

If you NEED the heavy metal option, go for a Laney. If you can do without it (jazz, country, blues, rock and roll are all possible) then get a Z. I can't talk enough about them!
