I like rosewood. Maple is okay if there's not too much goopy lacquer on it. EBMM does a great maple fingerboard, in my opinion.

Sometimes, when I'm playing the SR5/Piezo Maple, and I feel I need a more Rosewoodish tone but don't have an SR5/Piezo Rosewood, I pause for a moment, and ask myself "How would Lee Sklar play this tune in this situation?"

Amazingly, it seems to help get my focus from my gear, and back to my playing.

I'm still looking forward to adding an EBMM 5/Piezo Rosewood to my wardrobe :)

Well, I'm going to get my first rosewood board here when the DD shows up. I wish that maple was an option, but it wasn't and I was determined to get a DD. It all works out since the RW only offering finally pushed me over to get a Bongo. I mean, may as well get two firsts with one bass.

But, if maple is an option in LE future offerings, I will always prefer it. I just like the way it looks.

I have to say that going on looks, I prefer maple/honeyburst for Stingrays, but I see what BP means about putting maple on the Bongo. With something that's a bit out of the ordinary anyway (and I love mine to bits) you have to go with what looks best. And done badly, light coloured woods look terrible. I've seen an old mapleglo 4001 that looked like it was covered in necrotic flesh, one for the Slipknot cover bands but not for me.

I'm with phatty on this one. Must admit I'm biased with regards to colours/wood types, I can only stand maple if it's got a matching headstock (unlike Phatty), unless of course the bass is ALL maple, then it looks alright. If the headstock doesn't match, then has to be rosewood for me. I've got one of each, but because it's a Stingray vs. Sterling, can't really tell the sound of the wood apart because too many other factors involved. But I like the look and feel of both necks, and both sound pretty good to me!

:D
