I have a brand new 2005 Stingray, maple neck with rosewood fretboard. I don´t know if the wood it´s finished, it seems and feel unfinished, but it have a change in coloration at the back of the neck, in the neck/headstock transition. It seems like a mask paint line. Mine it´s almost unnoticeable, but I saw many in eBax whit very strong difference between neck and headstock finish coloration.

Are SR4 necks finised? It need be oiled after taking out of the store?

Hi, and congratulations on the new 'Ray.

It's all perfectly normal! The Stingray neck is finished with a gunstock type wax, rather than the usual poly laquer you'll find on most basses. The "line" at the headstock end is where the wax stops.

All you need to do is be careful about cleaning it regularly (best thing is to wipe the neck down with a clean cloth after each playing session, and make sure your hands are clean before playing...) You will probably find that the neck becomes a little darker as the playing hours rack up...its all mojo, I don't worry about it too much now:p

Just wait till that neck gets some playing time on it. I swear EB necks only get better and better with time.

I agree, the neck on my 2001 Black/Black/Maple SR5 is starting to darken(and yellow) up nicely and it feels better than ever.........
