Hello

On the Thomann site (for the non-European forumites : Thomann is the biggest Internet music seller in Europe. They are huge ! Every European musician knows the Thomann site), there are some useful information on the manufacturers of music products :
Online Catalogue Manufacturer Overview A - Thomann UK Cyberstore

For each manufacturer, there are some statistics, especially the amount of defects. Thomann sells a lot, thus I believe that their statistics are valid (you can compute useful statistics only if your sample is large enough).
For instance, on the Marshall page, we see that the Amount of defect is 0.71 %.
For Mesa Boogie, the amount of defect is 0.55 %.
For Blackstar, the amount of defect is 1.70 %.
For Bugera, the amount of defect is 4.16 %.

On the Internet forums, there are always horror stories and urban legends on the reliability of the brands. Well, the Thomann statistics can help for breaking the myths !

Pretty interesting. The low % for Mesa makes sense to me, as they built high quality stuff. No one is perfect though, and sometimes it has nothing to do with the manufacturer. The defects can occur during shipping, at the store iteself...however I think a lot of times it is also the consumer themselves. What I've noticed in general is that people dont educate themselves before getting involved in something...honestly it doesnt even matter WHAT (whether it be an amp, car, cooperative apartment, mortgage loan...whatever).
