Does anyone know what the resistance is from the bridge to the end of the ground wire that connects to the jack? I would think it would be almost nothing, but my stingrays reads a bit high. thanks

Thanks. when I touch my meter leads together, I get .1 ohms. when I check the ground wire to the bridge in various spots I am getting .8 ohms. that seems a little high for a 4" wire. How is the ground connected to the bridge? is it just sandwiched between the bridge and body?

Sorry, I'm not being pedantic I promise, but I gotta ask....

Why?

Thats the usual way. Over time things oxidize, the finsh and the wood beneath the wire start to yield a bit so pressure on the connection is less. About the only way to increase contact is to solder a tinned sheet to the end of the wire. You can't solder to most bridges, unless they are brass and you scrape off the chrome first.

BTW, I wouldn't have any concern over that 0.8 ohms, even if it is a bit much for a 4 inch wire, it's still only 0.8 ohms which is the real deal. Idea: plug your instrument cable into the jack. Check impedence from the sleave of the amp end of the cable to the bridge, and also from the amp end sleave to the grounded leaf of the jack inside the cavity. Get a perspective on your larger grounding package.

Sometimes the ground wire will get pushed into the wood, and contact with the bridge is less because of that. Loosen the strings, take the bridge off, and if the wire has sunken into the wood, just move it.

.8 ohms is nothing. It shouldn't affect your bass at all.

something went wrong with the electronics in my 'Ray a week ago. I checked everything that I knew how to check (batt voltage at the connections, output jack, ground) with my multimeter. I think its the preamp. I also had the G-string issues we've heard so much about, so I gutted her. by the weekend, I will have a Nordstrand MM4.2 pickup, with an Aguilar OBP-3 with the push/pull mid freq. switch running at 18 volts. Also a clear pickguard to show off my burst finish. I hope this combo will sound great through my Eden wt800b and 410 xlts. The resistance of ground was the same with the wire cut, hooked up to nothing but the bridge. I will try to make that number as low as possible before the install.

Sorry guys. I can put it all back together stock if I ever sell it. (cant see parting with this bass) I will have to get a new preamp or pickup, though. I bought a Warwick double buck, and it will be for sale when my stingray is back in action. I am going to put the money towards an SR-5. I didnt really want to go with something other than stock, but I wanted to try to resolve my G-string issue. If this doesnt fix it, ebay will be seeing the pickup/preamp and customer service will get a call for a new set of guts unless the tone kicks butt.

Hum, earth buzz. If the ground is not secure that's what you'll get. I assume that was the reason for the initial question?

Thanking you, Aussie Mark.
