bridge pickup buzz in JP

I replaced the tubes in my Peavey XXX amp today (Groove Tubes for both power and preamp) and noticed when I plugged up my JP that the bridge pickup was creating a very audible buzz. The amp has been in the band practice room at the bass players house for months. I usually practice about 3 feet away from the amp there, but to do the tube replacement, I brought the amp home. When the bridge pickup buzzes, I am sitting about a foot and a half away from it. The weird thing is that the other 2 positions are totally silent. As soon as i switch to the bridge, it is constant...

Didn't notice it to much in the band practice room...

Any ideas anyone?

Pickup Buzz

If you move back a few more feet does it stop? I'm no expert, but maybe it's extra line noise from the outlet you're plugged into as well?

Just plugged in again and scooted back a few feet and the noise went away. I guess I just freaked out....

I am still curious as to why it is only the bridge pickup that creates the excess noise if you are to close to the transformer......

That's very interesting...

What kind of cable are you using?

I'm not too sure how the custom winding of the JP bridge is done; I don't have the audacity to examine it for myself, but I don't see why any anomaly in the bridge would be introducing something that the neck pickup isn't introducing as well.

i'm using one of those real thin crappy cables that are 90degrees on one end and make rustling noise when you move it. I left my good cables in the practice room by accident....... Apparently it is not insulated very well?

Yeah, I'm not sure...

It's amazing how much better your sound can be with decent cables. Get you a really good cable.

The one thing that is throwing me is how the bridge is doing it, but the neck isn't, because it sounds like a cable problem, especially when moving away from the source.

Does your JP have a D-Sonic? Those are known to be a bit buzzy...

It is basically because the D-Sonic is a very unballanced humbucker (the two coils are very different from one another), which allows for both very interesting tones and some hum. If you have actual problems with the hum of the D-Sonic in practical use (not sticking your ear into the speaker cone whilst testing), I'm afraid the only cure is a PU change.

I don't have the d-sonic. My newest one will, but not my current.

What brand cables do you suggest jaxadam for best sound quality preservation?

I like Spectraflex.

Monster aren't bad, and I have quite a few of those, too, but not my personal favorite.
