Hello, i have an Axis and an Axis Supert Sport, i know Eddie Van-Halen wanted his floyd to be in contact with the body for a maximun resonnance and sustain, and so it is with my Axis, but in my Axis Supert Sport, there is a little piece of foam just under the tremolo and this foam cut the direct contact between the tremolo and the body so i would like to know if this little piece of foam doesn't cut the resonnance because there isn't any direct contact between the tremolo and the body ?
Thanks !

That piece of foam is called a "cushion strip" it is used to soften the thump sound you hear when the tremelo comes back to pitch after heavy tremelo use on our vintage tremelos.

It can easily be removed should the owner want to remove it. There should be very little difference in tone or resonance if at all.
We do not use this strip on our Floyd Rose equipped guitars.

Off topic, but still related: aside from the sustain/resonance aspect, the Floyd is flat against the body because EVH was never a big fan of floating trems, mostly due to the fact that he rests his hand on the bridge when he plays.

Just thought I would add that (somewhat) related nugget o' info. :)
