Out of curiosity, are the saddles on the non-piezo JP similar in shape to the piezo JP? I've never seen one (don't see the point of a non-piezo JP). I know it has that machined metal piece over the saddles which makes things quite comfy, but when that's removed the rest of the bridge looks similar if not identical to other MM trems.

Maybe I'm wrong? I have no clue.

That's right, it's actually the same system. Most people think they are two different trems, when in reality they aren't :p

The saddles are the same shape. For me, the point of a non-piezo JP was that when I was buying my first JP, money was tighter than it is now. I didn't play live, and I didn't see the point of piezo unless I were playing live. I didn't see the point of the JP inlays or Mystic Dream. So, I got a base JP with now options. Also, I think the non-piezo JPs sound a little bit thicker than the piezo-equipped ones.

Guess ya learn something new every day. So the JP trem is just basically a floating vintage MM trem with a cover over the saddles?

Yup. Pretty much.

Folks, here are some shots of the Sub1 and JP6 Piezo trems. Keep in mind that the saddles on the piezo JP6 are different than those on the non-piezo version. The non-piezo version apparently has the Sub1 type saddles. However, at least you can see the differences here. Also, the top plates are clearly different because the saddle intonation screws are flush with the back of the JP6 trem cover - where as they are set back under a lip on the Sub.

I'd say clearly different trems here.

That was my take as well....it all comes down to how you define 'different'. To a new buyer, they really are different. One is back routed and has a cover, and the other has a lip and no back routing so it can rest on the body. The trem arm on the JP is also much thicker - so the hole is bigger. While the basic function may be the same and they may share some common parts, I'd be hard pressed to say they are the same trem.

Functionally, and by overall design, they are the same trem with the same functionality. I remember BP saying something to this effect once.

I liken it to the difference between a Camaro and a Firebird
