Burke who you may ask? Burke is Bass player of Budgie, and someone who I know well. On Thursday he was telling me about the USA dates that had to be pulled because of the death of Dio, Burke's guitarist Craig Goldie was unavailable due to commitments arising as a result of Ronnie's death.

he was talking to me as he was doing his own sound check and my jaw dropped when he pulled out his new Stingray. He explained that his Fender bass was a bit fragile now and he was looking for another bass for recording.

Anyway here's a picture (from a phone so sorry about the quality!) going through his trusty Vox cabs.- not playing with Budgie, just jamming with another band.

Welcome to the fold Burke!!!

I actually have their Bandolier album on vinyl (and well worn at that) - Budgie is a great band. Welcome, Burke!

I had tickets to the Budgie show in Allentown PA - do you know if they are coming to the US eventually? Amazing to see Burke with a Ray - pretty cool!

He told me that because Craig Goldie had committed himself to some dates commemorating Dio's death and because there was trouble in South America the tour had been pulled.

I'll see him next Thursday and ask if he's planning on re scheduling the American tour.

I was amazed to see him with his new Ray too - he was pretty pleased that night, and had a great sound thro his Trace Elliot amp and (really) old Vox cabs. The vocalist that night was Kenny Driscoll from the 70's UK Band Lone Star - and he sounds more like Paul Rogers (from Free) than Paul Rogers !!;)
Burke had also bought a Larivee acoustic that day and was a very happy chappie all round:D

Burke is a great guy! And Budgie rocks!

Ritchie - he is a really nice guy - he has no airs and graces about him.

It was funny a couple of months ago - he was after a Marshall amp for Craig to use in rehearsals and he called around my house to look at mine. The look on my wife's face when he walked in - priceless!!!

because there was trouble in South America the tour had been pulled.

I wonder if he was talking about what I'm thinking of: They were booked to play in my country (in Medellín - and I planned to attend), but the concert was cancelled. I talked to the promoter asking the reason and, according to him, Craig Goldie immovably refused to enter Colombia after being warned of the "mortal risks" he was exposed to if he came here. He also told me that the band had already received 50% of the payment and that he tried in every possible way to convince him (through the band manager, I guess) that coming to Colombia is not a life threat. Nothing worked.
