Hi, i am new to this forum. I have played guitar for a few years, and recently took a trip to my local guitar store and checked out many different guitars. Once I played an Ernie Ball Axis, every other guitar in the store felt wrong in my hand. seriously.

anyway, now i am looking to buy an Axis. I will probably buy used. is there anything i should know in my search? years to avoid? things to look for?

I am thinking of buying off ebay. has anyone had any experience with ebay, buying an Axis?

thanks for any help! :D

If you buy off E-bay, let's hope you don't need service on it. You'll be responsible for all the shipping and repair costs to MM, instead of letting a local store take care of it. Just a word of caution on a high priced guitar. Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums. Good luck on your search!

I've bought a couple Axes off Ebay, and I think the only advice I can give you is to really, really know what you are buying before you bid. It's particularly important to pay attention to neck condition and fretware, and you should get a solid description of these before committing to anything. I only buy from well established Ebay sellers (no, four positives from the purchase of a CD and a couple pairs of socks don't make a seller "well established"), and I ALWAYS speak with the seller on the phone before I agree to purchase. A good question to ask on the phone after you get through all the condition details is "have you ever shipped a guitar before?"

...and make sure that you look out for the rare burnt apple finish (God, Jon's going to kill me LOL! That's an inside joke, just so you know...burnt apple is not rare)

Jimi's spot on in regards to his advice, especially the feedback aspect. Anything I've bought has been from a seller with 25+ feedback (average) or higher. You don't want to buy from someone with 0 feedback, or someone that only has a few (as mentioned).

Feel free to throw some links up here, and we can give once overs and input about them...oh, and by the way, welcome to the board! :)

Ditto on the hand fitting thing you described, and on what the mighty JimiD said!

I bought my Axis Sport and Albert Lee from eBay with no problems, luckily, but as with any purchase there, buyer beware. Be smart and don't be afraid to ask lots of (intelligent) questions, read feedback, etc. The folks who know what they're doing are usually pretty obvious there, in both good and nefarious ways.

Another option if you live near a major city is to check the musical instrument listings on Craigslist.org. Got my 3rd EBMM (a Luke) for a steal on the NYC board a couple of months ago, and since it was local I got to try it before buying. Got an even more impressive deal there for a near-new Focusrite mic preamp day before yesterday, too...

Good luck!

Razman, the appropriate term is "Axes" for more than one Axis...we already went through all of this, and our resident rocket scientist norm clarified that for us. Isn't that right, Dr. norm? :p

norm, see ya in 5 days, by the way...will be interested to see Tucson for the first time in 22 years...

Welcome Steel! you might just as well hold out for an EVH!!!! :)

Just kidding....Axis is a good guitar too!

I have had good luck on ebay buying and selling....ask a lot of questions, and if you are unsure about anything, ask for more pics! If they don't want to send you more pics, they are hideing something!!!

Rock on!!!
