I recently bought my first Bongo....a 2004 Bongo Lava Pearl HH 4.......Quickly came to love the playability and over all range of tones on it.
So now a few days ago, I went and found a brand new, 2009 Bongo Dargie Delight II H4....it has the ebony fretboard.

My question I guess is what to expect with the single H pickup setup in the Bongo.
I am guessing it has the 18V pre amp...I noticed the knob config is different than on my HH.
Sure it does the same thing , Just minus the controls of the other pickup.
I guess I am just curious what to expect from the single H on the bongos or MM in general.

My other musicman basses aside from the Bongo, are all Stingrays.
And they have either the HH or the HS pickup setup on them.

So this will be a first for me playing a musicman single H bass.

If any of you guys play a Bongo single H....drop me the good or bad word....

Thanks for taking the time :D

I like the singleH bongo. Simple, elegant.

If it doesn't have piezo, it has a 3 band eq instead of the 4 band.

you got volume, bass, mid and treble. very distinct in their effect.

I've owned an HH and a SC/H and prefer the 3 band because of the distinctiveness you get out of the mid as opposed to the 4-band with the high and low midband.

ymmv.

Hey thanks for the help!
All makes really good sense....Looking forward to giving the single H set up a rip.
Love the HH and HS set ups I have now...
In the rays and bongo.
I would love to have found an HH dargie D II for a good price...
But instead found a single H ....
happy about the Ebony board...my normal first choice.

Thanks again....ttyl

You will find that the Bongo 4H is nothing like the SR4H. It has more authority. Warmer and punchier, with a smoother midrange and not as bright top end.

If I'm not mistaken the owner of the company likes that configuartion the best. Do a search on this forum for Big Poppa and the single h bongo.

Yeah, if You buy this DDII Bongo 4H, with "small EQ", BP will treat You like his own son! :D

Thanks, Yes I found that out for sure....
I already own both a 4HH Bongo and a 4HH stingray....
They have different fretboards....which for sure effects the tone....
But the bongo with the 18V pre amp and the electronics have a very unique presence.
It is a beast that is unique and bad azzzz for sure!!

I have a Bongo H and a Bongo HHp.

They do not sound alike, and that's more about the pickup placement than it is about the EQ.

Both are superb.

You won't be sorry.

Thanks, I am REALLY looking forward to getting the DDII 4h....
They moved the PU up into the body a smidge in the single 4 right?
Truly a shining star out of the heard I am sure!

I'm a convert to the single H. I've had an HH and still own HS and SSS. All sound great. But the bass that see the most gig and recording time is my Bongo H. Slap some flats on it and you'll be in tonal heaven.

Flats huh?
hmmm....
I have never once put flats on a fretted bass before.
Have been playing for many years ....Just never tried it out.
Might just run to the music store and grab a set.

I am really interested in trying a Big Al SSS bass....
I have one on my "to get" G.A.S. list....

I have a 2009 Bongo 4HH DDII and a 2010 Bongo 4H Roasted neck. Both are great basses and when I compare them side by side, there are a few things different. Pick up placement is the first thing that I noticed. The single H is more centered in the body where as the dual H kind of spits the difference so if you play finger style and use the pickups as a thumb rest like I do, you will have to find a sweet spot for you on each bass. I have for both of mine and the change is very minimal. In my opinion, I can probably get more tones out of my dual H but to me, both basses sound very similar My Roasted 4H is actually my new #1 bass with my DDII as it's back up. With the bass yu are getting, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well it plays and I think you will love it.

Hey JayDawg, thanks!
I think your right...I bet I will love it.
I find it funny, only a few short months ago I looked at the bongos online and thought they were freakish and ugly.
Never would have thought I would want one.
Loved my Stingrays and was leaving it at that.
Then I started reading threads on them, looking more close at the images...reading how BMW helped design them and what the thoughts where when developing them.
I saw my Lava Pearl selling on FEEbay for a great opening price.
Ended up having the winning bid...

Ever since I first played it I LOVED IT!
The balance...the tone...and overall 18V OOOMPH!!!
gotta say WHOAAAAAAAAAA!! :)

Greatly looking forward to adding the Dargie II Bongo to the heard!!
