hi guys,
i have an unsolved noise problem with my guitarsetup. its NOT fault of the guitar but maybe someone can help to find a solution.
1) my setup:
MMJP6/pz
magnetic output - tuner (korg) - compressor - tremolo - wah - ISP decimator - amp
piezo output - aphex exciter - DI box - mixing console - PA
2) my problem:
as long as there is only connected the magnetic output everything is perfect. when i connect the piezo i have a massive buzznoise on the amp. (coming from the guitar).
what did i try already.
groundlift the exciter
use a different powersupply for exciter and the other pedals.
its a ground prob or something else.

any ideas?

thanks for your advice

Flip the ground lift on the DI box. If your DI box doesn't have a ground lift switch, get one that does.

If that doesn't do it, try plugging your amp into different electrical outlets. My drummer's house has one outlet that I just can't use at all without unbearable buzzing. All the others work fine.

thx guys for your many advices.
the aphex exciter has a ground lift but it doesnt change anything. the exciter works as a DI box itself.
i dont have powerconditioners.

Is the exciter/DI run from the same supply as the PA?

It sounds like there might be a loop problem.

(but I'm usually wrong) :)

the exciter is not from the same supply. and its from a different supply as my other pedals (what made it a bit better). i am sure its a groundloop problem. but how can i solve it. would a powerconditioner solve it at all?

Well, failed German at school, so I'll have to use English!!;)

The ideal way to rid your self of the Earth loop is to run all of your kit from the same source (use extension leads and multi-plug boards). Don't forget to use a few circuit breakers just to be on the safe side.

Yep, had the same problem with the same setup. My piezo was into a DI with the ground lifted (didnt matter) into the FOH, mag plugged into my pedalboard (powered Furman SPB-8) going into a Hot Cat 30...went thru everything and did find some noisy outlets on the stage, but most important, all plugs for your setup (amp, pedalboard, power supplies) need to be plugged into the same source. So now I have amp and pedalboard plugged into a Furman power strip. I also decided to not use the plugs onstage but run the Furman power strip into an extension cord to an outlet backstage. I still have a tiny bit of hum but I think thats just the building, still a 95% improvement and sounds awesome.... Good luck ;)
