Can I get ss frets on my Axis?

I need a refret and I want stainless. I heard EBMM now makes an Axis with ss frets


Can I now get ss on my Axis?

The answer in most likely no. They will return the instrument back to it's original factory condition. Unless it cam from the factory with ss frets, it wont return from the factory with SS frets.

Are you sure about that Warg? Someone on The GP put up a thread stating they sent their Axis for a re-fret to EBMM and got SS frets?

Okay rereading that thread it was a guitar the guy ordered in 2012 and he just received and stated that EBMM upgraded his frets to SS. So I guess it would pertain to only new Axis models unless Sterling states different.

yeah I think straycat is right... He just made an assumption about the frets. I don't ever see musicman upgrading frets on a used instrument. They did make a limited run pdn model with stainless frets; however, I believe the pdn frets are jumbo sized vs high pro medium width. There are a lot of competitant luthiers that could put stainless on your guitar. Also, there is a pdn axis for sale on this forum in the top section.

There was a recent thread about this and I recall A.J. from customer service confirming that you get what it originally was. Maybe that policy will change, it never hurts to ask.

I got my Axis and ASS Plek'ed and refretted with Jescar SS frets. Yummy.

I have had some other high end brands with SS frets. I thought they maybe gave the neck a bit slicker feel. As far as tone I don't know about any difference. Maybe the notes seemed a little more immediate if that makes sense. They are nice

No major changes. Bends might be a bit silkier but since the frets wear so slowly, the big thing to me is that it keeps that "freshly refretted" feel.

I like them a lot. When I need to have a refret on my AL I certainly hope EBMM will offer the service. The tonal difference is subtle and is more in the feel of the frets. Less string drag and silkier feeling.

Plus, good bye to fret wear for most players. I would love the option to upgrade. But, sadly, they don't offer that kind of service.
