Hey guys, can you guys do me a favour and measure the distance between your pick guard and the top of your pickups (not including the magnetic rods)
Thanks

Also what do you prefer better, natural headstocks, or matching headstocks???

While depressing the E string at the last fret, measure the distance from the bottom of that string to the top of the pickup magnet for that string. Adjust for a distance of 4/32 inches. Do the same with the G string but, this time, aim for a distance of 3/32 inches. Final adjustment may have to be made to the G side by ear, so that the volume is even across all strings.
I did roughly this on my stingray, and then tweaked by ear. I find that the G side has to be very high to get near to even volume on all strings but the G is often weak. I think alot of people have this problem on stingrays. Maybe EB should not step down the G sting pole.

I don't like matching headstocks, natural looks great.

Cheers

Rhys.....You're asking how far the PUP rises up from the pg each side????

Matching headstocks....don't like them.

BBM....I know a lot of people complain about that....too many for it to be just a bad adjustment by one or two players. The topic has come up before on this forum and many others. I haven't experienced it though. I don't know what the problem is...

heeeheee...an exception :D

Matching CAR does look good.

Perhaps rather than saying that I don't like them, I should have said that, subject to colour, I prefer to have a non-match headstock.

Wow , sweet red!

What do you think the chances of getting a Tort or Abalone venere for a headstock on a natural finished bass with matching pickgaurd????? I've been toying with that idea for a while... and maybe when the major label money comes in one of these years ;) I'll see if EB can do me up a couple of necks with nice thin Tort and Abalone headstock veneres... it should work, and would look well and truly Flash! :D

Re: For Masamax

I'll post some high res pics of my bass once I get the photos developed and scanned. But that is a DAMN nice bass. The store I purchased mine from ONLY has matching headstocks on their SR5s. The Burnt Apple one they have looks GREAT. I should mention BTW that mine is Trans Red. ;)

Hey Masamax, where in the 'Chuk did you buy your SR5 from? L&M? Out here in Vancouver that's about the only place that carries them. BTW I'll be coming through Edmonton in November with a guy called Brian Doerksen www.briandoerksen.com maybe I'll have time to check out some SR5s... that is if my cousins and friends from Leduc don't get me a little preoccupied! :D :D

There are three stores here that have SRs. L&M has one on consignment I think (Black/Black/Maple). Mothers Music, which is where I got mine, has 3 (all matching headstocks). They even have a burnt apple if you want to check it out (DAMN it's fine!). Avenue Guitars also has 3 SR5s if I recall as well as 4-5 SRs and Sterlings.

If you haven't heard what a SR5 with a piezo sounds like and the massive versatilitiy it adds to the instrument, I can PM you my number and you can give me a call when you are in Edmonton and spend a few minutes by at my place to check it out. It's a damn fine piece of work, and not only does it look beautiful, it sounds beautiful. I do have to go get it set up at mothers however since the rainy season here just past and the humidity is killer on that unfinished neck! :)

Oh, and if you go through Edmonton, and want to just hang out at a few stores give me a call. I can show you a few stores if you don't know any bass players here (cause frankly, I don't have any bass player friends...too many damn guitarists and they only think in terms of guitar!) :D

I have a burnt apple 4 string stingray with a rosewood fretboard. I only wish it had a matching headstock! I really only like matching headstocks when the guitar has a rosewood fretboard. Going from the finish of the body, to maple, and back to the finish on the headstock just seems to odd for me.

>>>>what music stores do you go to in brisbane, that you reckon have good gear?

Hey Rhys...I normally go to "Music Express". They sell Fender but can get EB if you know what you want. I always get 25% discount on everything. The guy who owns it sold me my first Fender, Rickenbacker and current Pre-EB MM when he worked at "Fords". In the last few years I've purchased a J Bass Deluxe and 62 Re Issue J From him. He had an EB 'Ray lined up for me but decided to get my 94 mint Mary Kaye direct from the US...that was too good to pass up!

Most places I've been to don't seem to want to display the good stuff on the floor. "Allens Music" deal in EB but keep it in locked display cases. They give you the  treatment so I keep going back to the same place.

Yeah i live just down the road from there, so thats where i usually get all my strings etc from. and i also bought my first combo from those guys as well. (notice theyve started dealing in Ampeg as well :)

I just bought a Stingray from (forgot the name, they just moved to wollongabba from south brisbane) they where really good, got a pretty good deal from them.

Yeah allens do have some nice EB's in their window. and as you said about the treatment, and also too expensive for my liking.

I've heard so many good reports about Ampeg. I think my 79 and 94 could both do with a Xmas present.

I'm thinking something in the line of 300 watt, 1 x 15" and 4 x 10" and perhaps solid state as opposed to tubes. I like tubes but would cost a lot to keep spares on hand.

Any suggestions?

What's your setup?
