Gavin, if you're going to run a 4-10 and 1-15 (which is my exact setup except when I get drunk and hook up the MM Audiophile 2-12 as well), I'd go with more power than 300 watts.
If you can find a Sunn 1200S, these are great bass amps, real tone monsters. Since I got mine, my rack setup (Sansamp RBI, QSC power amp, etc) has been very, very lonely. 1200 watts, great tone, 2 rack spaces, what's not to like?
The new Bassman 1200 is exactly the same amp, btw, just with that odd looking Fender logo on it.
anybody here ever tried Mesa/Boogie stuff?? I've had a Walkabout for a while now and although its only 300watts it's a little tone monster. And my SR5 is a good match for it. As for cabs. I've got a 2x10"(Mesa) and just traded the other 2x10" in for a 1x12" Aguilar. The only times I ever used both 2x10"s my master volume was at 4 on the Walkabout! Not many stadium shows so that's hy the change to atleast 1 1x12"
Have you guys tried out any 12" loaded cabs?? I used an old SUNN coliseum 6x12" once and it was amazing, even for a guitar cab my Jazz sounded great through it.
anywho, all the best with a new rig! and the 1200s does seem like a wicked head, huge power, tons of tonal approach.
AI run through a Portabass 2x10 Ampeg Cab, and a 250W (@ 4 Ohms) solid state head. The head sounds INCREDIBLY warm, which was quite unexpected, and you can dial up the master fairly high before you start to get distortion.
If you are wondering why I use s 2x10, it's because I can't really carry around a 4x10 in the back of a Japanese sedan very well, and really my 2x10 weighs 30lbs.
If you are interested in Ampeg, I have a few suggestions:
HEADS:
PB-250-> 250 W solid state head (mine...)
B2-R-> 350@8Ohms. Solid state preamp.
For Cabs your options are really only limited by your wallet. Ampeg has cabinets in almost every size you can think of. Mine is considered small, and it's not very loud but it works well for smaller gigs and band practices (I can get it just as loud as my guitarists 100W Marshall amp) and when I need to drag it out of my basement every few days for a practice it HELPS to be light. Their B series enclosures are damn good for a pretty good price (comparitively). Check out their website if you are interested, and see what speaker/head you want.
Yeah i also have heard great things about Ampeg...
Currently im plaing my mm through a trace elliot 400sm, with trace elliot 4 -10 cabinet.
although i like the tone, i cant seem to get the same versatility as i got running my G&L through the trace elliot.
