I just got this Stingray in a trade.....I had a Sterling classic and regret selling it so I needed another musicman! I traded a P bass for this....I have no idea what year it is or what color it is!!! trans blue teal? it looks more blue but I dunno. I just sanded down the neck and re tru-oiled it...it looks great but I havent even played this yet!!! I have to wait 2 weeks for the the truoil to dry so I can polish it! I think it needs a black guard.

Yeah it wont let me use my nickname here! I think I hit facebook connect.

that color in the pic is the lightest it gets....theres no hint of green thats why I am wondering....in regular light it looks like the bluest blue blue can be! I usually hate blue basses but I think I like this a lot! I cant wait to play it!!! I have the bass in my room with woodstove so it will dry quicker!

then I saw the rosewood necks tonight! I had a rosewood warmoth neck before...they are nice warm and articulate! I think I have to order a HH slo!

I just googled the serial number and the dude I just traded for it asked last week on here!!! lol

I wish the databass had the color! It has a quatersawn neck as well!

now how weird is this...its a 2009 with a quatersawn neck 2 band EQ and string through body....do they have a custom shop??? and I dont think trans teal was available then.

Why wait a month to play... if i re oil my bas i just rub in the oil wait a few minutes, apply wax and play! Somethimes i do use 2 layers of oil bu still a few minutes between seems ok to me.

I have worked with tru-oil before....if you dont wait at least a week when you go to polish it the heat makes like clouds under the finish and it looks horrible....when tru-oil sits on there it doesnt melt into the next layer like lacquer....it sits on top of the previous layer so the bottom layers take a while to fully dry....I put on 5 coats....its at a semi gloss now I might have to scuff it down to a satin after....but its super smooth!

On music man instruments tru-oil is not a finish as much as it is a light surface treatment. Dab a little on a paper towel, wipe over the back of the back of the neck, rub down well with fresh paper towels. Some follow up with the same process with gun stock wax (which is how it's done at the factory). Some prefer only the gun stock wax. It's a quick job.

I love the smell of tru-oil and gun stock wax in the morning.

yeah I know how musicman does it...but I like kind of a shine....once it hardens it feels incredible! I sanded most of the old stuff off...wipe on a coat with a cotton piece and wipe it off right away with a paper towel.....wait 8 hours lightly rub with grey scotch pad..tac cloth the dust off and wipe on and wipe off immediately. that leaves very thin layers that you can control the amount of shine or gloss. I love the smooth feeling of hard truoil on a neck....so I put a little extra on and gave it a semi gloss....once it totally hardens I will knock down the gloss with a scotch pad and wax.....It will be smooth as glass! It looks perfect right now! The person or 2 who owned this bass before me didnt do the best job on the neck....the tru oil was like peeling off.

Thanks! It looks awesome! I cant wait to play it! I usually hate blues too but this one looks great! I was stumped! I knew it was too blue to be trans teal. I cant stop searching dealers for rosewood necks! I think I have to find a dealer who ordered one in November with the specs I want! sterling HS honeyburst with a tort guard! that would look so nice! I had no idea you could order one then....although I think I did see it in bassplayer now that I think of it.
