Hey folks! Just joined this forum and super noob in Sterling/ Musicman so please bear with me. I've been mostly a Strat/ LP purist for several years of playing live but I recently stumbled in this nice JP100 Sterling in a Music Store and I was super blown away with how easy to play and the workmanship is awesome... I didn't like the headstock though, looks goofy.. no offense. :D

Anyhow, I'm not a shredder and just do some occasional solo stuffs in our local Church.. will I still be able to get some nice Straty sound with this? Obviously I can use my Strat if I wanted a real strat sound but the flat radiis neck of this Sterling is just heaven to play!!

Last question.. is Sterling like a budget guitar like Squire to a Fender?
Thanks in advance! ;)

Welcome!
Yes, the Sterling by Music Man is a cheaper, yet still great Version of the US Music Man Models.
I didn't really try to get a Strat Sound from my US JP, but in the Middle position it produces a real nice Clean sound, and I modded one of mine to split the Humbuckers too.
If you're looking for true Singlecoil Sound you might want to check out the Sterling Silo too. I think the Silo is also cheaper than the JP Model

There was a time when the headstock looked funny to me. Not anymore. When you start loving the guitar, the headstock makes sense to you and then becomes what you want to see. Never heard anyone say,"love your playing...but that headstock is just holding you back."

JP get's a lot of clean stuff from the center position of his guitar, no reason why you can't do the same. I've found the JP interior coils position is actually cleaner than what you get from most strats. It's very sparkly and not as bluesy/dirty as you might get from other single coil type guitars but it does have a little bit of spank to it.
