IMO, they are missing a mid-throatyness that I like amps to have. I also find them a little on the "fizzy/buzzy" end with the gain. Just not my deal. I like heavy - just not with all the mids scooped out. I guess I'm an old guy - I like my mids!

You know, I tried out a Road King and I was honestly a little disappointed. Maybe, it was that I had crappy settings on it. I don't know. Then, I tried an Egnater Mod 50. The Road King--the way I set it up--was missing something too. It was probably that I needed more mids and less "fizz." The thing I didn't like about the Rectifiers I've tried is that they seem to have had this grainy texture to their sound. The Egnaters can get heavy, but they're smooth. In Mesas, I think that non-Rectifier Mesas like the Caliber series and its descendants in the F series seem to lack that grainy, fizzy, buzzy sound.
