Off Topic Can you help a bass brother out?

Hey Guitar side,

I have this 63 Fender Deluxe amp that has a Musicman speaker in it. I've owned this amp for at least 15 years so I really don't know when the speaker was put in. Recently, a friend borrowed it for some recording. He came back singing its praises, as they always do with that amp, and suggested I put in a speaker made by Weber.

Yesterday a package arrived in the mail. And yes, it's a speaker made by Weber (he's a good friend). So the question is - do any of you have experience with these speakers? Would you swap out the old Musicman for a new, vintage series, speaker from Weber?

mods - I apologize if this is out of line. I didn't know who else to turn to but a bunch of Musicman Guitards. Ooops, did I say that out loud?

Tbone That was a nice gesture...The Music Man speakers were designed by Tommy walker and made by eminence....I dont want to talk out of school but Im not so sure that Weber actually makes speaker...

Try it both ways...nothing but a little time is all the cost

Just out of curiosity, why would want to even change the speaker "if" in fact it's praised by everyone?? Just to have a extra one in case??

TNT - Only because it is a gift from a well known artist here in Portland. I know he'll use it again so I kind of feel I have to.

Slingy - It's a 12F50-8-25W (according to the pack list). Seems to be a direct replacement for the Deluxe Reverb.

BP - Thanks for the little piece of history. Now I'll have to research Tommy Walker.

I've been playing my guits through a 65 Deluxe Reverb or 79 Princeton Reverb into a Weber 12F150, 50 watt and I like it. Its clear and articulate with nice tight bass and mids. It's a great speaker for a Blackface amp. I do like some celestion made Carvin G12-75-8 and GS12-75-8's just as much though. I like the Carvins (or real branded Celestions for that matter) for rock and the Weber for blues and jazz styles. I have the Weber and a Carvin mounted in a 2x12 enclosure and can select either of them or both in parallel.

I say throw that puppy in the amp and give it a go.
