I did the country gig last week and things went pretty well (it is amazing how much attention Kermit gets). Did it again last night (and again in a couple of hours) and something happened that has never happened to me before... set 1 - DG Bongo 5's batteries crap out... set 2 - RR Bongo 4 batteries flat line... set 3 Kermit's batteries died AND to top it off- set 4 my wireless batteries died.

I am usually really good about keeping good batteries in everything (in fact I have only had one bass die on me during a show and that was almost 10 years ago) - Murphy must have been out to get me last night. Anyway, just thought it was funny (the band didn't but I did) .

Well, the good thing about it, is now you've got fresh batteries in all your basses and wireless, uhh?? :D

I'm sure your band has already forgiven you ;)

Wow. That's nutty.

Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket in case the pendulum is planning to swing the other way this week. :D

Always hope for the best and plan for the worst...

Guess you had a half-dozen or more spares with you at the time?

I'm sure you will for the next time! ;)

I did something last night that I don't normally do. We got to set up pretty early, about 2 hours before our show, and I unplugged the cord to my bass at the bass and left it dangling through the strap to make sure the batteries weren't engaged. When I came on stage and tried to play, I couldn't get any sound! I looked at my amp and everything looked good there. Of course the next thing I checked was my connections and I found the cord hanging from the strap. It's a good thing to because I was just about to freak out. I get kind of wound up just before we play anyways.

I did the same thing, sort of, in a concert with my jazz band. Tuned up about 3 minutes before the show, and waited to start our first song. We start playing, only I am not making any sound  Sound's up, amp's on, except... The other end of the chord was still in the tuner  forgetful me.... My bandmates were not thrilled with my entry 3 measures in, but I just call it being fashionably late. So I know how you feel.

We all have such things happening, especially before a gig. And it gets even worth when you use fx pedals ; I always mess myself putting the cables on the input side instead of the output side and vice & versa. After that i panic because everything is on, all the volume are open and no sound happens...and then I check the cables plugging and sigh... (but before every gig, I put a new set of batteries in everything that need some and keep the others for rehearsal).

Being new to bass amps, especially tube amps I fell for the old "stand by" switch snafu. I checked everything and was about to pull fuses when I seen it, that big old toggle switch, down in the “stand by” position.

I don’t know which is worse, coming in late or having the whole band and audience stare at you while they wait for you to sort it out… :(
