How many of you guys have tried the Carlo Robelli basses? I understand Carlo Robelli is part of Sam Ash?

Anyway, I saw some decent basses under the Carlo Robelli brand name and tried them out. Not that bad, but my friend tells me CR is a cheap brand. Any experiences? Neck detach, strings and neck go flying, killing audience members? Body ever caught uttering something semi-Semitic? Pickups arrested for beating man for his cash?

I tried a few over at SA and they are crap. The construction is poor, the finish work is horrid, and the playability is terrible. The "normal" ones are below Fender's cheapest knockoffs, and the "oddball" bodys are just plain ugly (they look like a BC Rich that wasn't completed - and some of them had a flat bron finish- yuck!). If you can find them around you, give them a try and judge for yourself... Buy IMO you should just stay away!!!!

Just an, addition. While I didn't spend too much time on them I did notice some of the neck joints were loose and many of the tuners were not fully installed (they had some movement inthem because they were not totally tightened down).

i was at the SA the other day and guy who seemed like he had pretty good chops said he bought one and really liked it.

I fooled around on one and since I suck I can't really tell you much about it but the action was pretty nice and I didn't think the thing looked half bad (I presume you are talking about the ones that look like stingrays?)

I would be that it is one of those things where if you went over there and tried a whole bunch of them out you'd find one you like.

But with the OLPs going for about 200$, and phenomenal reviews on them I bet your money would be better spend on one of those. there is a nice natural one (it is basswood and is a bit browner than the real deal natural) with a tortise shell p/g.

They seem to always be on backorder on the various online dealers.

Pete
