One of the most prolific and widely heard bassists with a career spanning 55 years, Carol Kaye II, was hired by Music Man in 1978 to produce a demo of the new Stingray bass. She had carte-blanche for whatever she wanted to do....

Carol posted about the song on her Facebook page yesterday:
"this is called "CHANGES", a fusion sort of tune, and I hired John Guerin on drums, recorded this at Gold Star and over-dubbed the guitar lead too. Music Man sent this as their "Demo Tape" to over 10,000 of their music stores USA, some still have this tape!"

Give it a listen here:

I had received a copy of this on cassette from Ernie in the late 90's. I must say it was a cool demo of the new back then Stingray bass. The cassette was only 20-30 min long, but showcased all kinds of playing styles.

Carol also posted an MP3 of Adagio Of Concierto De Aranjuez. From Carol's Facebook page: "Another sound for Music Man bass, classical, recorded 1978". Give it a listen here: http://carolkaye.com/www/library/sounds/mp3/Adagio_of_Concierto_de_Aranjuez.mp3

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting that great photo!

I ordered some of Carole's training materials a few years ago and learned a lot from them. She was very nice to "chat" with via emails, too. She is great, and it's fun to see her playing a Music Man in that photo.
