Hi,

I bought a left-handed Silhouette Special two weeks ago, brand new. Great guitar ! I have two questions though:

1. It came in a bag and not in a case. Why is it ?
Are the cases asymmetrical ? I have never seen one.
Are cases for LH guitars available anyway ?

2. It came with a polish clot etc. and with a sealed plastic bag that was empty ! What should have been in there ?

Thanks !

Dude,

Ernie Ball/Music Man sell the guitars with hard shell cases, but the guitar retailers can make more money if they sell you the guitars with gig bags and then sell the cases separate. Ernie Ball/Music Man sell the guitars with cases because they know that the only way to really protect your investment is with a lined case. A gig bag is about as good as wrapping that beautiful instrument in swarn wrap. Go pay the extra $100.00 and get the hard shell. Protect your investment. You can also get the same case from Musican's Friend. These cases are the balls.

Of course, I have hard shell cases for all my guitars. But this guitar retailer got the guitar straight from the importer (the day before I bought it) and did not have an MM case on sale. Moreover, "ErnieBallMusicMann" is in print on the gig bag. I absolutely trust this retailer and the guitar seemed to be delivered to the importer in a gig bag.
That's why I thought it might have to do with left-handedness, because I have not seen any original MM case myself. Any other views ?

Cheers,
Ronald

Ronald,

To the best of my knowledge, EB/MM ships the Silhouette Special in the hard shells. Which means that the retailer switched the hard shell for a gig bag in the back room. The EB/MM case is universal it fits either a righty or lefty Silhouette Special. Did the retailer give you an unbelievable price? I know that Guitar Center near me pulls this sort of thing all the time. They buy gig bags from the guitar manufacturers cheap and then they swap them for the hard shells. This allows their price to seem lower than everybody else. Then they can also sell the hard shells for more/extra when someone wants on instead of the gig bag. Ask the retailer for the paperwork from EB/MM it should list the hard shell. At least that's how they are shipped here in the US.

Good luck,

Thanks for the info, I will try to find out.
The price of the guitar was not bad indeed. On the other hand, there is not so much to compare when you are left-handed. In Holland only few retailers have quality guitars like this one in stock. That is really frustrating for left-handed players. I have been waiting for months for this guitar to arrive, and was called by the retailer as soon as he got it. He knew that there was a big chance that I would buy it anyway.

All the best,
Ronald

Gig Bag / Hard Shell

Hey There,

Every instrument shipped out to a retailer or distributor comes in a hard shell case. All instrument prices include a hard shell MM case.

Please let me know if the retailer tells you that it came in a gig bag...

We will take care of ya,

Brian

Thanks Brian for your concern,

The story continues ....
According to the retailer the last 6 or 7 EBMM guitars were delivered in gig bags ! On my request he contacted the distributor in the Netherlands, who insisted that the guitars were shipped to him in gig bags too. The distributor had a hard shell case for me available for a special price though: 159 euro's (appr. USD 180) instead of 235.
What do you think of this ?

Cheers,
Ronald

Want to let you all know that thanks to MM customer support the case problem was solved. I got the hard shell case in September.
The customer support is on the same level as the quality of the instruments !

It looks as if the tremolo bar does not have to be removed when putting the guitar in its case.
Does anyone know ? I'd rather hear from someone before trying.

Cheers !
Ronald

Brian, I know that Guitar Center does not sell and EB/MM instruments with the hardshell cases. They offer a gig bag and then they tell you that you can upgrade to a hardshell. This is how Guitar Center claims that they can offer the best prices on instruments. Most of the guitar places near where I live have been doing the same thing with guitar companies too. I know that certain Fenders came with a hardshell, but the guitar places would say "No they don't". Which is bull, always was, always is. I'm glad to see that you guys stand behind your stuff and the people that buy them. That's something that I'd never see Fender do. Your products ROCK. Keep up the great work.

Nope, you don't have to pull the trem arm - this is another really clever EB/MM innovation that I appreciate every time a pull a trem-equipped axe out of it's case...

Thanks for answering my question, Jimi.

I am impressed by your collection of EBMM guitars.
The Silhouette Special has become my favourite guitar (of the ones I own). The only other left-hand EBMM model available is the Axis Super Sport.

How do you think these two types compare, especially in tone and neck (playability) ? I am interested in the HH version of the Super Sport.

Thanks,
Ronald

Gigbags instead of cases??

My Silhouette Special also arrived in a gig bag, only I own it for 2,5 years now, so I guess I'm kinda late to talk to the musicstore who sold it to me... I still have the receit though..

My previous guitarteacher has a Silhouette (an old one with H-S-S config, without the locking tuners etc), he bought his about three years ago (brand new!)> his guitar also arrived in a gigbag...

Makes me wonder:

Is there a problem with the distributor in the Netherlands?
(> Brian of Customer Service?)

Then I have another question > does a Silhoutte Special fit in a SKB Strat case? Since I'd really like to have a case for my beautiful instrument (preferebally a EB/MM case because the trem can stay on > but I think most of the stores won't sell these cases..).

Thanks a lot!

Leon,

If basically what you want is the exact same case that EB/MM uses just get this case.

http://www.skbcases.com/product/musical_instrument/guitars/skb-66.html

A SS will fit perfectly in it. These cases are the best that I have seen in a long time. You can get them online at Musican's Friend, their prices aren't that bad. They also sell the EB/MM cases.

Hope this helps.

Having read this thread, it just makes me more assured that the next new axe I pick up will be an EBMM.

Having owned about 40 guitars in my brief 27 year existence, and had some not so savory experiences with certain makers/ companies, it's visible...EBMM is about the only one that gives a toot about their customers.
