I have a 2001 USA made sterling which I purchased used. The base was used touring for a number of years and the case shows its wear. The ends are broken, handle is broken and some of the cushion inside is gone.

I’m thinking of getting a new case since it is my #1 bass. I know I can buy a direct replacement case part #5981, but it is $250. What are other people using that cost less?

I’m interested in the new Mono cases that they are using for the Stingrays, but they don’t make them for Sterlings. I would love to get an original case or the mono case, but want to keep cost under control.

The Mono cases are awesome if you can pickup one of their generic form factors. I just looked at my StingRay Mono and while molded - it may be forgiving enough for a Sterling (but I don't have one on hand to confirm). As an aside, pre-Mono, I used a padded Gator gig bag that was sufficiently enough protective and lightweight for gigs (that was around $120 if I recall correctly).

p.s. Welcome and lets see that Sterling!

Thanks for the input! I really like the new mono bags they are shipping with, but I wish they had should straps on them.

I have been looking at something like this one to use most of the time:

I love my Mono sleeve. The quality is absolutely top notch. Thanks to their choice of a dense foam the case is relatively thin for the protection it gives. It's a tight snug fit for the instrument, protects great, and I think it's pretty comfortable to wear too. And I love that it's gray! (I'm sick of black everything!) The side-opening pocket with the big flap and buckle is an annoying triumph of form over function and it's the only pocket available but I still love the case. I really do. If you prefer multiple storage pockets or have anything larger than an 11 inch laptop, you'll need step up to a bigger model.

Hey @DrKev - I was reading this thread and I have a question about the MONO cases that you might be able to answer - apologies if this not the correct place for this question. At the end of April 2023, I ordered a new Cutlass from a shop in the UK. I would prefer an original style HSC and not the MONO case ( I have read that all EBMM new guitars come with MONO case) so I have asked the shop to request a HSC which I am happy to pay any extra cost. Do you know if this will be a problem and if not what would be the cost of this request? The guy who I was dealing with at the shop did not seem to know.

I do not know if it will be possible or not. Your shop will need to contact the UK distributor, String & Things, and ask them. They do all the importing and deal with the stores on EBMM's behalf.

Thanks for the info DrKev- much appreciated. For some reason, I was under the impression that the shop deals directory with the factory for EB Music Man guitars and Strings and Things only distribute SBMM guitars now as well as all other EB strings/accessories. I will contact the shop again and give them this info..

Ah, OK. That may be true, I know there were plans to deal directly with stores but I wasn't aware of when that was to start. In any case (excuse the pun) your store should be able to find for you. Don't be afraid to push them on it if necessary.
