I bought an Axis a few months ago from the original owner. It's an '07 that was ordered through New York Music in NE Ohio. When I got the guitar I noticed that the guitar was moving around in the case. It seems that the case is too big for my guitar. If i put loose items in the little cutouts they are all over the place when I open the case. Luckily I never tossed in my allen wrench tool or it wouldve scratched up the guitar from not staying in the storage area of the case

I have another Axis and it fits in the case nice and tight. I can put loose items in the storage spaces and they stay in there during transportation and the guitar doesnt move around. Even my allen wrench tool

Both my cases are EBMM molded cases.

This is the only pic I can retrieve from my work computer. This is the case the guitar came in
Ernie Ball Musicman Axis (EVH) custom wound pickups

Any ideas??

MM cases are deliberately slightly oversized. (Anyone remember when they changed? 2007?) When a guitar is in a snug case and the case gets a knock or bang, more of the impact is transmitted directly to the guitar. Let me demonstrate the logic for you. DrKev makes learning fun! :D

I want you to use your left hand to protect your nose.

First, place your left hand about half an inch from your nose. Try to keep it at that distance, ok? Now, with your right hand, punch your left hand. Gently at first, then building up force until you fear for your nose's safety. That gap is useful! It won't protect against everything, but it does help.

Now, repeat the experiment but this time put your left hand firmly in contact with your nose. Punch your nose again.

So, would you like a little gap in your case, or would you like it snug?

BTW, evolution gave our brains a little space to move around inside our skulls. Same reason.

the new cases have a label on top of the handle, they are slightly bigger indeed and I think we start seeing them around 2009
