I am curious - assuming you store your balls in a hard case, do you lay the case down flat, stand it on its side, or stand it upright?

I stand 'em up right.

I do have a (dumb) question though. Does it matter if the guitar is "upside down" in the case when stored vertically?

I would say it depends if the guitars headstock can make contact with the end of the case.

With about half of mine, the upper horn of the guitar prevents too much movement and as such, the guitar can't slide forward enough for the headstock to make contact with the case.

But with my others... if the guitar shifts forward, the headstock makes contact with the case before the body. It is in this instance, i would not stand them upside down... Personally, I would not want the full weight of a guitar being distributed across the headstock and neck for an extended period of time.

I actually add extra padding inserts to the majority of my cases to prevent too much shifting and keep pressure off the neck.

I store mine largely on their side, but sometimes lay them flat :)
