Hello everyone. I'm about to purchase an EBMM JP6 BFR in ruby red after realizing that the spalted top will not be coming out as a new color option. :(

However, I have a burning question in mind. I've been Looking through the Ball Family Reserve threads and I just noticed something. Have the headstock color for the BFR JP6s been changed from the matching burst color to standard black? Here's a pic from the BFR thread from the first few pages:

And here's a pic of the same model in a more recent post:

It may be the picture, but I would just like to comfirm if this is a change or a new option.

Thanks.

I'm fairly certain, but my memory's fuzzy. Anyone else know for sure? I think Tobacco Burst was the only one without the black now?

The headstocks are now black. Tobacco Burst is discontinued on the BFR's, so I think maybe the only ones left with matching headstocks are the Koa's.

Correct it was done for quality control purposes.

Unlike the other EBMM models the JP BFR's neck and HS are mahogany. It was getting too problematic to consistently match the stain on the maple top to the mahogany HS. Thus the all black HS were introduced.

They're matching on Cherry Burst too if I'm not mistaken. So the other colors have black headstocks.

Doesn't the cherryburst have a mahogany headstock as well? So is cherryburst a "premium" color?

I liked the matching headstocks, but I understand the logistics behind the change.

It's one less cleaning of the paint guns per guitar...probably saves around 30 minutes per BFR. Plus, they don't have to try to match a bursted maple top with a bursted mahogany headstock.

Yeah, I think the all black headstock makes the guitar a little more metal anyway... Even when we are talking "feel" players and lefties... Haha

It's a shame EBMM dosen't make a "metal" guitar... Haha. If only they would reissue Mr Horsepower then they may have a fighting chance in the "metal" market...
