Hey guys, i own a 2006 Stingray which i love to pieces.
The only down side to it is that it seems to have developed a dead spot on the neck, from around the 7th to 10th frets on the down the g string. Ive tried new strings, adjusting the truss rod, adjusting the bridge but to no avail. Last resort is to change the neck but if anyone has any suggestions they would be welcomed cos its a killer bass.

"Developing" an unresponsive area on the fretboard seems to be a bit unusual.

Generally - in my experience - a bolt-on style either has so-called 'dead' spots from day one - or it doesn't have them, ever.

You've apparently done the easy work that might resolve the issue. I'd also suggest checking the fret(s) just before the 7th fret and/or just after the 10th fret to see if they're dead level. If you don't have a straight edge you trust or don't feel you have the expertise to check the level, any decent repair guy can have a look at it.

Ive checked the frets are level and they look fine. I played a Jazz Bass the other day and that had more or less the same problem but towards the 5th fret.
Would love a fretless neck though so its just an excuse for me to get one and but a chorus pedal to sound like Pino hehe

Try a Groove Tube Fat Finger. Somtimes it works pretty well, because dead spots are some sort of phase cancellation phenomenon and adding the FF can change the resonance frequencey and the vibration pattern of the neck.

You can also try Billy Sheehans workaround: Always fret the lower octave to the note you're playing. The sympathetic vibration of the lower string will work as fill in for the dead note.

Cheers mate, ill try a fat finger, was trying to think the other day what they were called. Still this problem is partly an excuse to get one of those lovely new vintage stingrays or a tasty new fretless.
