So i posted this on tgp and didnt get any ideas perhaps you guys can clue me in..
So two weeks ago i was at GC and snagged a ebmm axis for a great deal. i played it at the store (guitar was not setup) and it seemed fine. i bring it home and take a closer look and apparently this guitar has seen some changes in the last couple of years..
The floyd bridge seems to be cheaper quality.
The neck also seems like it has been changed also, it doesnt feel as comfortable as the older guitars did, its like they made the edge on the low E string sharper (instead of being rolled like the original one),so it digs into my the base of my thumb when i play.. (not the frets, the wood itself )
Plus the trem pivot screws are manufactured different, instead of having a small area for the knife edge to sit, the new ones have a groove cut in for the knife edge. This groove is larger than the knife edge is so on the treble side the bridge has play meaning that you can feel it moving around when you use the trem, it pops in and out and the guitar cant stay in tune..
I checked out one more guitar when i was in KC and it was identical to this one.. aka neck edges were not rounded.. then last week i went to my local GC and saw a 3rd one (brand new 2013) and the neck was perfect and the bridge had the original gotoh floyd and wood inserts..
