So i posted this on tgp and didnt get any ideas perhaps you guys can clue me in..

So two weeks ago i was at GC and snagged a ebmm axis for a great deal. i played it at the store (guitar was not setup) and it seemed fine. i bring it home and take a closer look and apparently this guitar has seen some changes in the last couple of years..

The floyd bridge seems to be cheaper quality.
The neck also seems like it has been changed also, it doesnt feel as comfortable as the older guitars did, its like they made the edge on the low E string sharper (instead of being rolled like the original one),so it digs into my the base of my thumb when i play.. (not the frets, the wood itself )

Plus the trem pivot screws are manufactured different, instead of having a small area for the knife edge to sit, the new ones have a groove cut in for the knife edge. This groove is larger than the knife edge is so on the treble side the bridge has play meaning that you can feel it moving around when you use the trem, it pops in and out and the guitar cant stay in tune..

I checked out one more guitar when i was in KC and it was identical to this one.. aka neck edges were not rounded.. then last week i went to my local GC and saw a 3rd one (brand new 2013) and the neck was perfect and the bridge had the original gotoh floyd and wood inserts..

I have a 2013 Axis, with the new floyd & trem posts. I've honestly had zero problems with it staying in tune. The neck is also nearly identical to my 94 EVH model, feels great to me. Most likely some other factor causing the strings to not stay in tune. I just bought a 2009 Axis (with the gotoh floyd & older trem posts), and am dealing with some tuning issues, so go figure :)

We just had a thread like this about a month ago, and it was also started by, a newbie, with 1 or 2 posts, and it was the same complaints, I haven't got a chance to compare the new or older axis, but I think anything ebmm puts there name on is of VERY high quality. But Ive also heard about the new trem being bunk compared to the older gotoh, I personally like the gotoh trems on older axis's Ive played in stores, and the only newer axis I played is a 2011 tribute, which I believe has the new trem, but again was in a store and did not get to properly check it out, but I will say, I thought the neck on the tribute felt thinner than the older axis i played, but could not be sure. And the neck was more raw wood feeling than the older one, maybe because the new one was brand new and the old one was used and had accumulated some hand oil and was more broken in, but ebmm are the best guitars out there.

yea its real weird, at the same store they had 3 Albert Lee models, and all 3 necks were different, one had the same issues as mine the other 2 felt a lot thicker..

Strange, both of my 2011 tribute Axii stay in tune perfectly. In fact, they rival my 1995 EVH!!!! Haven't played a new Axis since 2011...........

Humidity has a lot to do with the neck issues. Pick something from top shelf at GC and it's been baked for months up there in the hot dry air (heat rises).

I will second that I am not a fan of the new Axis Floyd. It does feel of lesser quality than the Gotoh.

Makes you wonder why they changed it. Im not a fan of pop in trem arms, and also Ive heard the studs are smaller and not of the same quality, but you could always get the gotoh and drop it in.

Hi
Someone on the forum said that they changed to the new floyd in april 2011. I personally like the new floyd and I have no issues with it.

I'll have to try the new one. I'm still playing the Gotoh on my 2009. I think there's a new one hanging at my local dealer.
