I am playing a Music Man Sting Ray 2 and its been frettin out real bad.
How do I change the action, or could there be another solution?
I haven't done much work on guitars, would changing the action be difficult?
What height would you recommend?

It seems like someone used to have a website with info on the old Leo-era Music Mans that might have included set-up info. I don't believe anyone at Ernie Ball has the old set-up guides but I could be wrong; I'm not sure exactly what they got in terms of "intellectual property" when they bought Music Man after that company went out of business.

I do know that the "2" indicates the guitar has a 7.5" radius, which is pretty similar to a vintage Fender, meaning action will have to be a bit higher than a flatter radius guitar to keep it from fretting out so soon.

If I can find that old website I'm thinkg of I'll post the link.

Just double checkin'.

You said the problem was "fretting out". Buzzing is a whole different issue.

Fretting out has to do with fretboard radius and the fact that you "bend" a string so far that it actually begins to lift off the fret (because the fret curves down). This cannot be remedied, you would need a flatter radius 12" or more.

Buzzing can be adjusted.:)

Oops; sorry - that was just my blockheaded response to the OP; I meant to write "fretting out" instead of "buzzing"; I'll correct my post.

Sorry for the second post - I did find the website I was thinking of:

My Music Man Guitar Page

No bridge set-up info but he does have a diagram of the controls and a schematic of the preamp.

He also has lots of inaccurate "history" on the page as well, so please take any info with a grain of salt.;)
