I mean I know I need an allen wrench, but what is the best tool to use for the nut holding the pick guard under the knobs? Would a crescent wrench or a nut driver work best? Any idea what size the nut is? Will the switch knob just POP off with a little pull, or do I need to be more careful?

I know I'm probably over thinking this as usual, but I love my balls, and don't want to hurt them if I can help it.

Thanks for listening...

Honestly I've always used needle nose plyers to break them from their hold then hand loosen them. Pull all of those off and the pickguard should just come off without any struggles.

Nut driver is your best bet, as wrenches/pliers can scrape the pickguard (which would more than likely be hidden by the knob, unless you end up slipping somehow... then who knows). I don't know what size they are off the top of my head, though. Once the nuts (and all PG screws) are off, you just pull the pickguard up over the shafts of the pots.

i think its half inch nut. loosen the knob with an allen wrench, remove from the shaft, get yourself the correct socket driver.. I'm pretty sure its a half inch, and turn... You shouldn't have to even put the handle on, unless it was overtightened in the first place. The pickup is not mounted to the guard, so you only have to worry about the knobs. a phillips head screwdriver will let you remove the switch, just make sure you remember which way it was oriented when you pulled it out. and you may need a guitar pick to scrape the adhesive tab thats helping to guide the wires underneath the guard... so 1/2 in socket, and a phillips head screwdriver.. and maybe a guitar pick... maybe..
