Heya, Gang!

http://www.myspace.com/alanrutter - "Kristin's Song"

I wanted to post this here because I wanted to get some comments on the first recording I've done with my MMJP6. All of the material I've done with my current project "Eyestrings" does not feature my JP6 on anything as the recordings were done before I purchased it. I thought this might be a good introduction for recording with my little Pet.

You may want to plug in headphones to listen to this song in order to get the full effect of the tune. Comp speakers don't do it much justice, though everything comes through pretty well, audibly.

I recorded this song using a KORG Tone Works Pandora PX4D Personal Effects Unit, tracking three different sounds for each of the guitars (Two Rythm [Right & Left] and One Lead [Centered]) which I've come to really enjoy as a practice unit, especially for warming up before shows, as it has so many different amp modelers and effects available. It even featured an option for the different amp modelers that provided built-in compression to the tracks, ultimately making the recording process go that much smoother. For anyone interested in this thing, I highly reccomend this cost-effective little box. It's very much so worth the money and won't split your wallet in two.

The Bass and Drums are actually all Midi-recorded into ProTools whereas the three guitar tracks were laid down through a Roland VS-840 digital recorder. Unfortunately, that first bass note is a little strong because of the bounce-down process from ProTools to a stereo audio track.

I used the Pandora to lay down a basic metronome track for the main melody, though the middle section is at a half-time speed and I didn't use the click track for it, figuring it would screw-up the feeling of the piece. As it stands, I enjoy the song for how it currently sounds and look forward to recording a full-version at some point later on.

Even though I'm not actually using my amp for this recording (Mesa Boogie Mark IV with Svetlana tubes in the Pre-Amp and Power slots), my JP6 still comes through with a unique and individual sound, I think.

Overall, I'm very proud of this song. I'm somewhat disappointed that I wasn't able to find room for the Piezo on this song, it just didn't seem like it would fit anywhere, though the Mags come through pretty nicely.

What do y'all think?

Definitely sounds like a JP to me! I can recognize that tone and sustain pretty easily, having recorded songs with mine as well. Nice solo voicing, and nice restraint as well during the parts that don't need shredding. From your description, you put in a ton of work into the track, and it shows.

I love seeing and hearing Balls in action!

Thanks for sharing it, Alan.

Thanks for the comment, Jay!

Yep, lots of work put into this one. The main melody and the rythm I came through right off the bat and knew what I wanted to do with, it was the sub-melodies that I had to really work at to get going correctly. In fact, the lead voicing is the only one that was "One Take Jake"-style so as to keep the feeling alive and coherant throughout.
