I saw an incredible bassist/drummer last year in Key West.

He was from Boston, played a jazz with his fretting hand
only. the rest of him played the drums . . a 4 piece kit.
He also sang lead vocals. he was really amazing

fyi - Alvabass does that tapping stuff & has a clip of the
star spangled banner

This exact kind of playing is what led Emmett Chapman to develop the Stick...30-some years ago.

Emmett had ben playing a custom 9-string guitar exactly the way this guy is playing his bass, with the left hand fretting normally and the right hand positioned with the fingers parallel to the strings.

The way Emmett tells it, one day in 1969 he rotated the instrument upright and put both hands across the fretboard instead of the way he'd been playing it. Evidently the light bulb went on at that moment and the Stick was born.

The guy in these videos would be a good Stickist.

that guy playing the Bass is on one of the bass forums somewhere but right now I'm home and I don't remember where it is or what the name os it was, cause all that stuff is on my work PC..
anyway you can talk to this guy one on one, he's not famous but just like me or anyone else that plays a bass .. i read in a thread where he told another bass player that was asking him questions that he had the pickups real high but couldn't have the strings too low cause of buzz. he also said that he plays into a computer and plays through just one type of effect. he's also using a Ibanez SR800 with GHS Boomer Lights and stock pickups. he's a house painter by day and plays in some cover band in ohio I think and I'm pretty sure he said he doesn't play like that with his band doing the covers.

guy seems like a nice guy and has a website somewhere where you can buy one of his 6 CDs..

I'm not promoting him just kinda telling you what I heard, also that link has like 6 vids I think..
