i apologize. he said in a edit after that auction started that the reserve was 1500. i guess he is not so smart and didnt actually set it.

He didn't set the reserve for $1500, but he did state there was a $1500 reserve. I'm by no means an expert on US contract law, but I suspect he's covered himself.

Zero feedback on the seller, and 2 on the high bidder. Bidders were probably scared away by his feedback. I know I wouldn't risk a bid of $800 for these two items from somebody with a zero feedback.
He is bound by the high bid, I'd imagine. His reserve as stated in the ad wouldn't count if challenged, as he didn't use the reserve function. Ebay will look at this as a completed deal.
