Maybe they were used and sold by the same guy? I haven't heard anything about this, but they must have looked cool!

I was just in GC today and saw an Axis and ASS both with pickup covers like the 25th and chrome knobs as well. Is this how they come now? Looked pretty cool very classy.

These are GC exclusive.

Yea, I saw this at the NYC Guitar Center as well. Looked pretty cool. However it was funny to see the regular production models with the chrome PUPs and then a BFR ASS with regular zebra PUPs.

Its cool, but the covers aren't really my thing. I always thought the zebra pickups were the coolest. If GC wanted to do something really cool a mahogony body axis would be awesome!! Haha, now I'm gonna be in trouble with BP. Want, want, want... Us knuckleheads are never satisfied....

If the pickup went microphonic after installing the cover I guess one would have to try wax potting the cover, but it shouldn't be necessary if the pickup is already potted. I'm thinking the covers would have to be soldered on to be grounded too, so one would have to have the skills and would not want to get the pup so hot that the potting melted. A high wattage iron would be necessary and the soldering would have to be done quickly. Also I'd clamp the cover down good prior to soldering.

Stewart mac has the covers and also shows how to install them

Also a person could buy new pups with covers installed if this is a concern. Like this one DiMarzio DP195 PAF Classic Guitar Pickup:Guitars, Pedals Amps Effects

I actually prefer the zebra pick-ups, I think it’s what gives the Axis it’s awesome good looks.

Seeing those pics with the chrome covers... not to bad either.

Call me crazy but I think the 25th or (Reflex) would look cool with zebras as well.

Hey guys...new member here....I see that this is a pretty old thread, but I'm glad I came across it because I wasn't sure what the deal was with my new MM Axis guitar.
Just to give a little background info...I've been playing for 25 years, and since the early EVH music man guitars, I've always wanted one. But there were a number of guitars I wanted before that...which I have now. I won't go into my collection as this is not the appropriate thread...but I will say...the Axis should've been higher up in my list, as it's just a perfect instrument.

Anyway, I got mine yesterday at Guitar Center...traded an American Special Strat for it, and got a good deal. But when I got home, I did have a number of questions (which I will post in another thread). One of those questions was, however, why does my guitar have chrome pickups (or covers..not sure) and a chrome volume knob. All the pictures I see online show Axis guitars with the zebra pickups. So going back to why I'm glad I found this thread....now I know that this is a GC exclusive...makes sense, as that's where I bought it.

The only other question that I think may be relevant to this thread is what year is my guitar? I searched all over the internet for a database that may be able to date my instrument...but have not had any luck yet. I see there is a database for basses, but none for guitars. Not sure if any of you would be able to look at mine and tell. The serial number is G46819. I'm just curious, as there was no year listed on the tag..and I'd like to know how long this thing has been on the wall at GC, and if there have been any changes since...if this particular guitar is more than a year or so old.

Anyway...I appreciate any comments and feedback. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Just to show off my new guitar, here's a few pics:
Thanks again...

Todd
