Just got word that my Powder Blue SR4 Classic shipped yesterday and should be here about Tuesday (I'm over on the east coast). :D:D:D

Watch this space for pics and please position your keyboards such that they won't be ruined by your drool...

Please post pics as soon as you get it. If I get a Stingray 5 Classic that is the color that I will get it in.

Where did you order from? That's the finish I want but haven't heard of them showing up anywhere yet.

I ordered it from Castellano's House of Music on Staten Island (apologies if I can't mention the dealer), the day after NAMM or so.

I just got the call - it's there NOW.

The color is actually paler than it appears in this photo and the photos on the website - more like Sonic Blue than Daphne Blue. A plus. :D

I had an interesting surprise with it. The first thing I do with any bass I buy is put on a set of flatwound strings. I happened to have some Chromes handy so I went with them - and they were JUST barely too short, meaning the silk wrapping was on the fingerboard. Looks like I'm gonna have to get some extra long scale flatwounds for these! I attribute it to the string-through construction.

Naturally, it played great and sounded great right out of the box. The neck is fantastic - super flamey and thin! Much thinner than I expected. A pleasant surprise. :) Love the lacquered neck.

2EQ is great, considering I never know what to do with the mid control anyway. :D

I got to play with it for quite a while, but couldn't take it home yet 'cause it isn't fully paid off yet. :(

Just thought I'd post this to show you guys why super-long scale strings are needed on the Classics:

photo-63.jpg

The E/A are super long scale, the D and G are just normal long scale.

BTW, I am enjoying the crap out of this bass and I really need to take some good pics for you guys. The neck is SO flamey and the gloss really brings it out so nicely. Also loving the 2EQ. First gig with it is gonna be on Saturday. :D

Yeah I had to order Sadow*** XLs to make them work on my Classic...Not that big a deal but I would rather find the right EBMM string for me. Anyway can point me to a Nickel Wound that compares well with the Sadowsky Blue Nickels? I would love to be able to pick them up from anyone who carries EBMM products. A lot more convenient than ordering the Sads...

Peace,

T

not to be controversial here but......

How about Ernie Ball strings like the original ones that came on the bass? If there is just something about them that doesn't work for you I understand but I couldn’t be more of an advocate as a dealer..... more customers ask for Ernie Ball strings than any others, they really are great nickel round strings. ..... just my $.02

Well the very first thing I do when I get any bass is toss the roundwounds and put on a set of flatwounds, because I don't like roundwounds on my basses. Ernie Ball flatwounds weren't readily available to me, so I used Chromes and they were too short. So I found some even longer Chromes. I happen to work on a music store and the only flatwound bass strings they regularly stock are the Chromes.

I *only* use EB roundwounds on guitar. By far my favorite strings.

Sorry for the derail but hope it will help someone else reading...

My family owned a Music Store from the time I was born and was an EBMM dealer. I used Slinky's forever and still LOVE them. I found the Sad Nickels to be a bit quieter and smoother feeling after I got a set on a Sad bass. I owned a bunch of Sads and they all came with his strings and I guess I got used to them. I actually have a set of Coated Slinkys and several sets of various EBMM strings including some flats here now and I should probably try them on one of my SR 5s. I LOVED the Classic but I only played it for a few minutes before I jerked the strings off of it and put on my standard strings. I can attest to the shortness of a standard wrapped string as I FREAKED out when I realized that standard wraps would not work with the neck through. I had some Sadows&^ XLs and put those on and did a quick setup and intonation adjustment due to the tension difference and went right out to a gig so I did not really give the original strings much of a chance. I dug the way they sound I had just gotten used to the smoother feeling Sad.

For anyone who may have compared them...Is there a smoother feeling Nickel Ernie Ball that feels about the same? I guess that should be the question. I know there are a LOT of different EBMM strings available but I have never tried them all. Maybe I should post this another thread?? Thanks for the help!

Peace,

T
