Hi, I'm Max from Florence In the forum Italian dedicated to the bass, many people say that the sound of classic stingray is the equal sound to the standard , what do you think about :)

I think it sounds better due to the two-band eq, but that is subjective. To me, the classic sounds smoother and more old-school than a standard SR4. Many would say that it lacks the bite of the three-band eq. Anybody else want to chime in?

You can have the 2 band EQ on a standard StingRay as well, making it even more standard than with the usual 3 band EQ. Most players seem to totally forget that the 2 EQ preamp has always been an option (and even cheaper).

I will go so far as to say this. Not only does the new Classic sound better than the standard, it sounds better than the pre-EB Stingray. It's that good!

Max, there definetly is a family resemblence in tone but they are clearly different and which one you'll like better is completely personal taste - my SR4 Classic Deluxe is my 3rd 2-band and although I'm always experimenting, I think I can finally say I prefer the 3-band preamp . . . overall tone . . . close one

Everyone has their personal sound preference. I've owned a 30th Anniversary (3-band) and now a Classic (2-band). Both are excellent basses, but my favorite is the Classic. It has a certain tonal quality that sounds more pleasing to my ear.

Hi , thanks for yours post, tink that the classic will only arrive in Italy to May, and we will not be able to feel to play before them, someone has of the demo audio? Certainly, the 3 eq, it is not the 2eq also for my ears but for 2eq pre ernie ball? The next week I will have the possibility to try a stingray of 1979….I hope its ok

I will definately agree it's smoother and very old school sounding. Which I love by the way :D I don't agree that is doesn't have bite though. Mine can cut through glass. In fact I have to keep my treble at halfway because it can be so bright.

2 or 3 band, both work well. From full cut to full boost no other brand compares to the tonal possibilities available on a MM.
