Just getting to grips with my new Stingray. I love it!!! Can anyone tell me where the EQ controls should be set for the classic Stingray growl, assuming the amp is set flat?

To maximize the sonic pleasure of the growl to an audience, however, my system is that [on a 3channel] I use the Bass and Treble channels to color the sound, to give it the character for the song, or the gig, or my own mood or whatever. It's the MidRange knob that seems to be the growler valve, but it is somewhat affected by the other two. So, if I want to start [or restart] pretty much from scratch, I put the Mids at about 1/3 up from bottom, twiddle the Bass and Treble for the color, mood, etc, and only then can I bring up more MidRange for growl.
If you for some reason change the Bass or Treble, you MIGHT have to fix the growl by reaching for the Mids. I guess that's why a lot of "scooped mids" contour effects produce plenty of bright snap and quaking bottom but don't enhance the growl to that same huge degree.
I don't start with my rig flat, and don't play with my rig flat, and all rigs vary, so flat is not an absolute term. I do however start up with my rig in my personal default settings for that rig. Those settings look way different on a G-K than on an SWR, and yet I'm the same player, seeking the same default baseline sound.

Yup, Golem pretty much nailed it IMHO.
the growl is in the basic sound of the bass - nomatter how you turn the knobs.
I usually run it flat when recording, onstage/rehersal adjust the amp to fit the room & bandsound and then uses the onboard EQ to shape the sound if wanted. I also think the mid-knob is the "scare-your-audience"-knob along with the bassknob
