I was just wondering. two of my "Alberts" have a trem fitted.

Has anybody replaced their trem block with an after market replacement, and if so was it worth it?

Any recomendations?

Cheers

Spud

4th Feb Edit as this thread later on got a bit confusing :)

I am referring to the replacement of the existing (Metal slab) trem block - the bit that sits under the bridge.
Some Fender owners who have replaced theirs, reckon it has made an improvement to their guitars. Just wondering whether anybody on here had done anything similar to their EB “Classic Trems”(Floyd Rose modifications aside, as I don’t have a Floyd).

I've always used a block of wood and tape. Effective, cheap, reversible.
I was confused at first too, but I don't think he is talking about blocking the trem, I think he means replacing the metal block that connects the springs to the trem.

I know it can be done. AJ at customer service was helping me out with my Axis Sport Trem and upgrading to a brass block.

Hello and just my 2 cents...If you have a really cheap guitar; a replacement tremolo blocks either steel or brass make sense. With Musicman guitars, I don't see the need unless there is a particular tone you are searching for that you feel that you are not attaining.

OK - good point DrugDM.

I guess it's a bit like the Cheshire Cat to Alice (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland)

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where –" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

So on the basis of that, who cares what my trem block is made from lol

I've never done it on any of my MM guitars. They all seem like they have pretty killer bridge blocks made out of brass, at least the ones I currently own. I have however done it on two guitars that are not MM and there was indeed a noticeable difference. I ordered from fu-tone.com. I ordered bridge blocks made of bell brass.

Funny and I always appreciate a good Alice in Wonderland quote. Before I only started playing Music Man guitars, I had an American strat and read about Callaham blocks so spent the $100 to change blocks after reading how all these people on the net that had these life changing experiences after making the change...Needless to say, I heard a difference but it actually did not improve the sound of the guitar but actually degraded it IMHO...I think what the trem block is made of matters, but on higher level quality guitars, all the material is good so I do not know as the guitar player if the $$$ to tone improvement ratio is favorable.

Hey Spud, there is also a VERY small company that makes custom Trem blocks out of granite. Stone Tone? You may have heard of them. Anyhow, I believe they only have a Facebook site where you can inquire about their product and pricing. Seem pretty cool to me.

I'm at work, so I can't look at my Alberts. Do they come with a brass block as standard from ebmm? I'm pretty sure that my BFR Albert has a brass block.

tollie, it appears as brass is the current standard on EBMM. My HHAl and Silo Spec both hAve brass blocks. My 1998 Axis Sport doesn't so it appears as if there was a change made at some point.
