Okay I have watched the video and I have the products, but the Murphy oil states very clearly not for unfinished wood? So what is the deal, is it safe or not. In the video he even talks about allowing it to penetrate the neck while he tapes off the body. Someone please give some direction, I need to get my neck cleaned up, but I don't want to take any chances.

Don't forget the part when he says use one part Murphy's oil - 3 parts water, I have a small measuring jug and then after I have made that mixture I pour it in a small bottle and use that until it is finished then mix some mo'

You can trust the video, it is safe to use, I have used it on all my unfinished necks for over a year at every 3-4 months intervals with no problems at all.

What I seen was him spray it directly out of a Murphy bottle onto a paper towel, I think that is already diluted? I know that the original formula is much thicker. Just trying to play it safe. BP this would be a nice EBMM kit for you to come out with as others have suggested. That way we would get exactly what we need with no guessing to take care of our naked Balls ;)

Yeah, I didn't hear anything about diluting the oil soap in the video...

I think you have to decide on who to trust...the people who made your instrument or the people who made the soap. I'm not sure why a "kit" is needed when the items necessary to get the job done are pretty easy to find and, in many cases, can be found in a single hardware store...

I have followed the video to the letter and have had nothing but great results. But I have learned with all the products used (Murphy's Oil Soap, the Casey's Gunstock Oil and Casey's Wax) is use them all in moderation. Don't ever use too much product and everything will be fine.

^This.
I've been using these products on my EBMMs for about 15 years with great results, including maple and rosewood necks.

My wife uses the soap on our wood floors, I notice that sometimes she has the diluted stuff, and sometimes it's the fully caffeinated version. I've found a consistency that I like, and usually mix the soap in a small bowl with water until it feels right. I find that my main gigging axe only needs the full treatment a few times a year. A few swipes of very fine steel wool and Wonder Wipes when changing strings is usually all that's needed.

This might sound strange, and I'm sure I'm not alone here, but I actually look forward to the ritual, it's a relaxing way to spend a weekend afternoon.

I just had hard gigin' weekend, 250 people wedding at Saturday night and local football (soccer) tournament after party at open space (few thousand people) at Sunday evening.
At this open area gig it was pretty cold after 10 PM and lots of moisture...etc.

Yesterday was bass cleaning day, it was in pretty bad dirty condition indeed.

All done with soft cotton cloth and neck with EBMM wonder wipes! ;)

I appreciate all the input, I'm just going to use the stuff right out the bottle and onto the paper towel followed by the wax. I don't feel the need for any sanding, she's not even a year old yet. Thanks all ;)
