Hi,
Lots of talk on this board about cleaning/waxing the back of the maple necks. How does one clean/finish the fretboard part?

Is it exactly the same as the back? I have an SR5 with a very dirty maple fretboard. Do I Oil Soap/Gun Stock Oil/Wax it as well?

Thanks.

Is the finish on the maple fretboard the same as on the back of the neck, and therefore to be treated the same? Do you oil/wax the maple fretboards the same as the neck?

Some threads imply yes, some no. With a rosewood fretboard, no confusion; treat the neck and the fingerboard differently. With maple boards, this may or may not be the case.

Yes.

However, the older necks (before 1992) were finished with laquer as were their respective Maple fretboards. These necks should be cleaned with guitar polish only (front and back). On laquered necks with Rosewood fretboards, only the back of the neck is polished. The Rosewood is treated with lemon or orange oil. Never put oil and wax on Rosewood.
