I was bored today so I decided to record a clip of a Cure's song I was learning (just for fun and cause I love Gallup's basslines) with my SR4
sr410.jpg

the song is "How beautiful you are" from "Kiss me kiss me kiss me" 1987 (I'm pretty sure this song was recorded with the Gallup's pre-EB SR4)
I cleaned the bass with adobe Audition and recorded on the song trying to set the bass not too loud but clear.

the eq on the bass was flat with a small cut on the middles

the chain is:

SR4
into Boss ceb3 for a slight chorus on the highs
into sansamp BDDI
blend 14
high and bass 12
drive 10
presence 12-13

let me know how this sound for you!
(this is the sound I'm using right now with my band)

gospel.bo.it - EKO MM+BDI21/how beautiful you are

ps: I didn't played the first bars cause I was messing around with the program.

anyone diggin' this sound?:p

...and if you want to hear my spin on a "Cure-ish" groove go here: Psychicpet

and click on the song "Disintegrating Desolation Street"

cheers!

great stuff. i love the late 70's/early 80's alternative stuff from the u.k. like 'the cure', 'siouxsie and the banshees' (total stingray tone everywhere! listen to the album 'juju' and tracks like 'monitor', christine' and 'sin in my heart'), joy division, bauhaus, etc. seems like a lot of u.k. bass players at that time were using stingrays. jamie stewart from 'the cult' too.

wow guys ...thank you VERY much:eek::eek::eek:

3 :14 in the morning here in Italy and I made another (short) clip, same style, same album, great simple bass line from Simon Gallup...
listen to how this simple line kinda "move" the entire song...
I love it..
not good executed, not the perfect sound but I love this band and I'm making my humble tributes :)

the song is "Torture"

gospel.bo.it - fsm/torture

ps: I used a metal pick to obtain more "zzzziing" from the strings.

That was great. Awesome tone. It also shows how a great bass line does not have to be all Wootenish. (Well, I'm not capable of playing that stuff anyways.)

Ps: the bass in this song is in DADG
(lucky me, I play like this 99% of the time with my band)
