Clumsiness Killed eBay Acquisition - Lesson Learned

So I was set to go up to $1,250 on a sunburst MM90 Al (a 2008) on eBay today. I had been watching the bidding pretty closely and as the clock was winding down, I went to answer the phone and accidentally ripped the power cord out of my wireless modem. Needless to say, I didn't have autobidding on as thought I would manually give the highest bid, even if it was to go a little over my "set" ceiling.

The winning bid was $1,212, was about what I had expected to pay, but couldn't arrange it because my modem had to reboot. I feel like I had been kicked in the stomach.

Can someone be nice enough to rationalize this somehow that would make me feel better? Lie to me if need be...I feel like a kid that's just been told there's no Santa Claus.

Maybe let me know what I would pay for a NEW sunburst Al with mm90s and tortoise pickguard?

This AL wasn't meant for you....yours is still waiting to be discovered. You like the sunburst but really prefer another color on an AL, however you didn't want to wait so tried to go after this one...which isn't for you...as you now know.

There is also an excellent chance I don't know what the hell i'm talking about.

I bid on it but wasn't willing to go over $1200.

It's okay. It just wasn't meant to be. There will be other Al's out there.

this has happened to me way to many times, but there is one that still haunts me today..I missed my bid by no joke 3 seconds on one of those really cool old Kramer acoustic guitars in gorgeous sunburst (left handed mind you) so this puppy was rare and it went for 250; I would have paid another 400 or so, I did not take my anger out in a healthy way; smashed about everything I could haha I was soooo fricking mad,I still am not trying to hijack or anything just saying I feel your pain

whoever sniped it probably would have outbid anyway. When I bid on ebay auction I wait until the last 30 seconds before I bid and make the proxy as high as I will pay for it or a little higher so people dont have time to bid more than once....feel better?

I learned the hard way about ebay snipeing...it sucks

I lost a Jem7 on an ebay auction, but as a result it enabled me to pickup my JP6 and I couldn't be happier. Just look at it this way, it was meant to happen, and the guitar that is right for you is out there, just keep your eyes peeled.

Danny, as they say "It wasn't meant to be man". I'm sorry man, but I know exactly how you are feeling. This happened to me on my first EBMM. I had found the CLB (Casey Lee Ball Auction Items for Casey Lee Ball) auction completely by accident one day while surfing at lunch time and fell in love man, it was everything I had wanted in a guitar. At home my computer was still a dial up modem, so to be sure I would win the auction, I went to work on a Saturday night and it was me winning down to the last 20 seconds and BOOM, it was gone, someone else had out bid me!! I was crushed, devasted. My wife said to this day she has never seen me so depressed in all the time we've been together (19 years). I did the one thing that I could think of, I emailed the winner (At that time you could see who the winner was), asking them that if they didn't like the guitar that I would be very happy to pay more than what they had paid for it. My wife thought and still thinks that I was nuts to do, so, but, after 3 months of emails with the winner, he sold it to me for $100 more than what he paid for. As I tell my daughters it never hurts to ask.

Good luck and another AL will fall in your lap, or maybe we could help you locate what you are looking for, what where the specs? Where are you?

It was a scammer, demanded western union wire transfer and the winner is out his money and the guitar never existed.

To be honest, I was kinda upset that folks were driving the price so high so early in the bidding process. If you want it at a lower price, wait till the very end to bid, especially on no reserve auctions. When you're ready to buy, just put in the MAX that you are willing to pay. Don't forget about shipping.

Good for the buyer, worrisome for the seller I suppose.

The only problem with this is sometimes I forget to bid or I'm stuck in a meeting when an auction ends. LOL.

But truthfully, there are other Al's out there! Really!

And Rob, I figured you were bidding on it when I saw there was an r***a in the bidding process. At least I know it would have found a good home if you won it.
