Hello all first post,
Ive recently discovered and love Cobalt strings. They are significantly better sounding than any other strings I've ever used let alone heard. The clarity, detail, and complexity of the crunch I get on these strings blows all others away and it is immediately apparent and an unmistakably superior sound. Thank you for this innovation in string alloy technology.

I would like to assemble a custom gauge set without having to buy and Frankenstein together from other sets.
The gauges I want are 12, 16, 20, 28, 38, 52. I can get the 28 and 38 from the Power Slinky set and the 52 from the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom set.

Why do I want these exact gauges you ask? Because on my shortscale guitars (Jaguar, Mustang, Duo-Sonic), these gauges provide greater than 9Kg but less than 10Kg of tension on each string, thereby having nearly equal string tension for the whole set. And using a shortscale guitar I want fatter strings. And I want fatter strings ANYWAY, since the tone is way better.

So my first question is, since the little strings in all these Cobalt sets arent Cobalt, which exact Ernie Ball strings are the little strings in these sets? Regular slinkys?

And when can we hope to see Cobalts in same-gauge bulk packs? I've looked across the forum but didnt see the answer.

Anyway thanks again these are the best sounding strings in the known universe.

To answer the first question, yes they are standards Slinkys.

The second question can be answered by someone from EBMM but if I recall a similar question a few months back, there were no plans to do so at that time.

And welcome to the forum, Cymbaline!

Thank you,
So to clarify the plain strings are just "plain steel", not any nickel alloy? Just want to make sure I don't get something that sounds different than what regularly comes with the set.

Single string gauges for Cobalt should be available through your local music store by the end of this month. If you need help getting them, contact customer service and we will punch in your zip code and orchestrate it through a dealer near you. You won't find them in Guitar Center just yet! Check back in a few weeks.
