I already have an Axis (1st year) and am seriously thinking about getting a Luke. I love the neck on the Axis and was wondering how it compares w/ the Luke's "V" shape. My hands are on the small side w/ my fingers being shorter than my palms.

Can I also but direct from the factory for the same price as Musicians Friend? They only have the black and blue. I was thinking of a sunburst or a white.

Thanks guys.

The neck's are similar, though the Luke is the smaller of the two with a far more pronounced "V" shape... As for ordering, you have to order through a dealer - you can't buy "direct from the factory", I don't believe...

can anyone post pictures of the back and sides of a Luke neck? Thanks

Also, I have an Ovation Custom Legend shallow bowl w/ a V-type neck. If anyone has that model would you say the neck is similar to a Luke?

By the way I'm going later on this week to GC to see if they have any. I also might trade a G&L Legacy for it or if it does feel comfortable, I might buy it in a yet undetermined color through Music 123.

Thanks. The V doesn't look too bad from the photo where your hand is on the neck.

Luke II Pictures

Hi There! I am currently selling a Luke II on the UK ebay site. If you go to ebay.co.uk and search for item number 7343393547 you will see some fantastic pictures of a Luke neck to refer to. Good luck in your search!!

From what I understand the Luke neck is an Asymetrical hard V. Mine certainly felt that way. Compared to the Axis the Luke neck I had was thinner and had a hard V shape that caused me thumb discomfort. I have medium sized hands.

I also used to have an Ovation Celebrity that had a hard V shaped neck but that neck was much wider and thicker compared to the Luke. One cool thing about the Luke neck is that its very easy to wrap your thumb around for chords.

By asymetrical, do you mean that the V changes direction on the neck and isn't perfectly centered? I went to 2 GC yesterday and none had them in stock. My local Mom and Pop store is having a customer bring his back so I can feel the neck. I'll prob order it through them. Thanks

Yes. This is a pic from a Luke that I used to have. Where the glare on the neck is shows where the point of the V neck is. You will notice that it is not perfectly centered but slightly towards the top.

The Axis has a more D shaped profile than the Baretta and Wolfgang models. Those are relatively flat in comparison, although I would not classify them as "thin"

The Luke has a V shape, but it is suprisingly more comfortable than one would think, based upon the description of it. I enjoy the feel of the Luke at the store.

Awesome photo, thanks a lot. I'm even more curious now at trying it. I can see why it must have caused thumb fatigue for some people. Hopefully I'm not one because i love this guitar.

Wanted to add, that I have 3 Lukes.

My favorite sounding of the 3 is the piezo luke, but the neck on it is my least favorite of the 3. Feels more like the Morse neck than my favorite Luke neck...

Which is on my Blue Dawn. Jon rubbed his magic on this and whatever he did, its smoother and more comfortable and I wish all my eb's felt like it. It's also by far the smallest neck on any of my lukes (another reason why I love it). Making grip and string reaches much more effortless.

But the BD doesn't seem to have as wide a sound scape if that makes any sense. Sounds more bassey than my other 2.

My Purple Luke sounds much more like my piezo luke (minus the piezo) and has a neck thats really great. Just not as small as the BD, but smaller than the piezo luke. (the jack is popping on it right now, gotta take it to be fixed).

Tone wins out lately (the piezo).

Awaiting 4th Luke, due about 10 weeks. Might have Jon work his magic on it in exchange for sending him and Lisa to a nice dinner on me.
