Totally OT but some of you are smart guys! :)

I'm thinking of custom ordering a speaker cab. Is there any tonal difference between a speaker cone rated at 8 ohms and an "identical" one rated 16 ohms. (eg Celestion Blue can be had in two varieties)

Forget the wiring and the resultant resistance differences, I'm purely talking about tonal differences.

Thanks!

It not so much the speaker impedance that changes, it's the sound of the amp that can as you use different taps from the output transformer.

I think most people don't notice a difference. Some guys do.

If you're buying a new speaker, other option to consider is what else you can use it with at the same impedance. (e.g. my heads put out at 4/8/16 but my Badger only does 4/8 ... so I avoid 16 Ohm cabs so I can use them with either amp.)

Some people will tell you they hear a difference.

Some people will tell you they hear a difference when using a £300 mains connector.

I'm just happy if they don't throw things at me when I play.
