Hey! Why does this pic state that the Black Sugar isn’t available on Floyd Rose equipped guitar but my Axis does? Confused

Black Sugar was a BFR (Ball Family Reserve) run in 2011. Not offered anymore.

I know that! I’m confused as to why the ad in 2011 states that this wasn’t available on Floyd Rose guitars and my Floyd Rose Axis from 2011 has this option. It’s the Black sugar with roasted maple necks and ebony fretboard and has the tremolo

Could have been a one off or an artist piece.

I'm curious what Derek will reply with.

Side note...just read through the post on the FB group about this guitar. That was painful..."That neck isn't roasted!", "The ad is about a JP guitar, not an Axis!", etc.

I can't stand the FB group. Most of the replies are nothing but people spouting ignorance & thinking they know it all and 80% of the new posts are folks spamming their performance videos or lessons & fishing for views/clicks. I guess that's the norm for social media these days though.

Speaking of which and not trying to hijack but my heart went bonkers when I found a page for THIS guitar...
ernie-ball-music-man-valentine-guitar-trans-satin-tv-yellow.html

A "limited run of 1" So it has MM90's and its a see through satin TV yellow but the body is Okoume.

And that hardware is described as "antique finish"-- wow... I've never seen that hardware type before. That is dreamy. It's sold out. I don't know when this thing was sold-- but the specs list 11's on the strings and now the Valentines ship with 10's so it must have been a while ago.

I quit FB 8 years ago. Since then I've been to and quit Twitter! :ROFLMAO: I'm telling ya, the ensh*ttifcation of social media is real and Forums are gonna come back (a little) as their own magic again. YouTube is definitely where most people get their guitar info nowadays, but you can't interact and ask questions like you can on a forum. And Reddit ain't it.

Anyways, not to derail the thread further...

Welcome to the forum @BOM ! Here you will find the most knowledgeable and likable bunch of Music Man fans anywhere. And Jeff dibart77 is quite possibly THE oracle of all knowledge related to the Axis guitars. You can take anything he says to the bank.

This is a good point!
I´m in quiet a few guitar related groups on facebook. But what´s missing there is some kind of structure like you have on a forum: A table of content and threads you can go into.
It´s just an endless list of posts, mostly buried under tons of buy/sell topics. Absolutely confusing.
Plus: the search function in those groups ain´t very good too

It was not uncommon for Floyd guitars and guitars with binding to be excluded from some limited/BFR runs in the 2006-2011 era. Sometimes it was to avoid an Axis w/ Floyd getting a fretboard material other than maple, and sometimes it was to avoid an opaque Y2D.

I would not be at all surprised to find out this is the complimentary 1-off to dibart's maple fretboard model from the same run.

Did anyone run the serial number through the data base on this, yes DiBart would have an inside track and Derek would certainly know, stuff happens could be a one off, an artist model, al ucky break :)

Did love that color, had a lot going on that could not be photographed

Yes, I ran it through the serial number DB. It definitely is a black sugar, roasted maple, ebony. So just trying to confirm it was a one-off. IIRC, Derek had both at Philly and I chose the one with roasted fretboard and another guy bought the ebony.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to do some research on these. We always make a few prototypes of certain models and then decide what to offer to the public, so these two in question could be prototypes to see how the finish looks on the Axis-style guitars but never offered as a stock model. The Roasted Ebony is a 300-axis model with black sugar, invoiced in March 2011. Jeff's is a 301 (Axis Chrome Model) model with a sugar finish as well as a roasted maple neck. This was invoiced later, in June 2011. Most likely, these guitars sat around, and we took them to the Philly show in November 2011 to sell them as one-off models. Something we always try to do with guitars that do not go to retail stores. Once everyone gets back from Namm, I will dig in further. It's possible that we made one for each neck type (Ebony, Rosewood, and Maple), but I need to confirm. I know we made these and took them, but the funny thing is, I do not remember these guitars at the Philly show........as the Axis Tribute was launched in Philadelphia in 2011 and was the big focus.
