edit: I assume that's what's meant by out of phase, series. It occurred to me that "out-of-phase" may be referring to hum cancellation?

Just to add to the confusion, I was flicking through a book I have here that uses opposite terminology to what I used in the above post, i.e. it calls a standard series humbucker "out of phase" when the string signal is clearly in phase. Sigh.
